En suite layout

How would you layout the en suite in our new extension? It's 1700 X 1665mm. Here's the architect's plan. Would you do it the same way? Where can we put a heated towel rail?

I would probably keep that layout, but have a pocket door so you can have a heated towel rail on the wall next to the sink.

DramaAlpaca · 01/05/2017 20:49

I think that layout is fine. If the window is high, could you put a heated towel rail under it?

Oldieandgoldie · 01/05/2017 20:52

There's not much room to step out of shower..any chance you could change the door to open outwards?
Swap toilet and shower, and have small rad under window?

ShotsFired · 01/05/2017 20:56

Why can't you just have the heated towel rail behind the door in this design? I have a normal rad behind mine and there is a separate rail above it which sticks out just as much as a heated one would. All works fine. And handy for getting out of the shower too.

By the by, though, I'd much prefer the loo and basin swapped over. That way if/when the door is ajar you are mainly looking at a sink not a bog.

"There's not much room to step out of shower."

But the door will be closed when step out of shower?

Towel rail or rad next to sink. By the time you have a few things hanging off the back of the door, it never lies flat against wall anyway.

ThreeFish · 01/05/2017 21:52

I'd put a radiator towel rail beside the sink / overlapping behind the door.

I'd put it behind the door too - you just need to either keep a thick towel on the towel rail, or have a springy thing to stop the door banging it.

Surely you'd have the door shut when stepping out of the shower, Oldie ? Although if you have the rounded doors, you sort of step out into the centre of the room anyway.

Thanks guys, the flat radiator looks ideal 😁

That's the exact same layout as my bathroom (even down to where the window is!) and we are changing it a bit this summer, having lived with it and found it's faults.
I'm changing the shower to a 5 sided enclosure (google 5 sided frameless shower enclosure to get the idea). I'm changing the sink from a pedestal sink to a bowl on a wall hung cupboard.

Our tiny radiator is currently half under the pedestal sink and half under the window. That's going for a very small heated towel rail which b&q do for £60.

If after those changes it still feels wrong, we would consider a corner mounted loo.

I'm half tiling all the way up to the window. At the moment only the shower is tiles and the whole room gets so frequently splashed (especially the left hand wall to the side of the sink).

I'm also taking out the frosted glass in the window. Literally no one can see in (neighbours blank wall 10ft away and it's on the 2nd floor) and I'm sure that'll make the room feel bigger.

We're having a quadrant shower. Was thinking of an Ikea hemnes vanity unit. Do you think a wall hung one will make it more spacious alabaster?

Well, I do, but that's just because when you can 'see' more floor I think it makes the floor feel bigger. We 'practised' in front of many sinks but my DH (who wet shaves) says the bowl ones were the best for being able to fill and scoop both hands in. So we're going for something like this:
www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/washstands-taps/wash-stands/godmorgon-tolken-törnviken-wsh-stnd-w-countertop-45-wsh-basin-walnut-effect-anthracite-spr-19187880/

We've currently got a quarter shower with sliding doors and the doors are a pigging nightmare - fiddly tracks which attract gunge and horrid to clean. Quadrant definitely makes best use of the space.

Liz79 · 02/05/2017 14:15

I want this one, preferably the 80cm version but that may be too big. www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/washstands-taps/wash-stands/odensvik-hemnes-wash-stand-with-2-drawers-black-brown-stain-spr-89903091/ I've found some Moroccan tile effect lino which I like, thinking plain waterproof panels at half height all the way round, except the shower obviously.
