Heat detector problem

Hello, hope someone can help? Just finished a large open plan ground floor extension and have a problem in that I cannot grill without it setting the kitchen heat detector off! The grill door is meant to be closed during grilling and so its only open for a matter of seconds when turning food but that's enough to set off all the alarms through the house, it's deafening and our dogs' nerves are shattered! Grin

We need all the alarms (which are hard wired) for planning/building warrant and our decoration has all been finished. For a short term solution, is there anything we can do to the alarm to reduce sensitivity to heat? I'm not worried about fire safety, we have had to put 2 smoke alarms less than 6 feet away from the heat one (total overkill if you ask me!) as well as multiple others through the rest of the house!

I mostly grill food and it's proving a bit of a nightmare!

I would expect that the manufacturer's instructions advise how to install it to avoid that happening. Look up the instructions and see what they say, then compare them to how the detector has been fitted.

No doubt you have an extractor hood above the cooker. Are you turning it on?

Sounds like it's been fitted too close to the cooker. There will be guidelines. We have a heat detector in our kitchen and it's never gone off although the smoke detector in the hall does if we burn the toast!

Thanks for replies. It's to to do with cooker hood as the hob is separate from built in double oven. It's definitely too close to grill (top oven) but can't really see how we could get it far enough away for it to stop going off as grill/top oven is quite high. Think I'll need to call electrician.
