What background check do they do on us before deciding to give us the green light?

As cos my dh is self employed and I work part time and we've got bad credit ratings

Do you know any elsewhere? As we had a door salesman here about 3 yrs and as soon my dh said that he was self employed and I wasn't working, the salesman went all abit awkward, and said he will get back.in touch after done paperwork but we never heard off him to see if we could have them fitted.

Dh is in a much better situation in work wise as we were struggling but since he split partnership with his business partner a year ago, The business is slowly building better and I'm working now.

Or would it be better If we saved up and get a local firm in? As it will take us till next year to save up as roof needs replacing badly so that's no 1

I had them in to do a quote - the guy was full of hard sales talk, quoting for scaffolding I didn't need etc.
As soon as I said I was getting quotes from local firms he said my quote would be £1K less than his and disappeared.
He wouldn't leave a written quote because we both knew it was a rip off!

Local firm. Have a look in your area as many small companies will have a sign outside houses they have worked on
I avoid companies with salesmen.

Sorry, was on my phone just them switched to computer. With a local firm, they'll pop round, give you a price then leave you alone - no hassling or cajoling.
For a vague idea I had a bay window plus 5 large windows replaced two years ago and it cost £1600 and took a day (they had to pop back next day to finish off) they left very little mess indeed, I had only to hoover up and it was all fine.
Firms with salesmen will pull all that 'it will be 12k but if I speak to my manager we can do it for 5k' nonsense.
Just get a local firm in who are Fensa registered and do a bit of research on them.
