vinyl wrapped kitchen doors?

Have any of you had this done/quoted?

If so, what is a sort of ballpark figure to doing this compared with, say, having the doors replaced? eg a white gloss standard size kitchen door is around £20-30. I'm not anywhere near the stage of wanting someone round to quote us, but wondering if this is something we can do in the next year or two as a stop-gap before having kichen fully replaced down the line.

Anyone got any info they can share?

vinyl wrap is not much good.

In a kitchen, it peels off where it is either hot or damp, such as over the dishwasher, near the hob, oven and microwave, kettle and toaster.

I have even seen it peeling in a warehouse display.

SpanishFly · 12/04/2017 16:40

Oh, I hadn't thought of that. Although my current faux wood doors are starting to warp/peel at a couple of corners and next to the sink anyway.
How long would wraps last?

several weeks, at least.

You can get hard laminated doors (the same material as worktops) which is very durable. Egger is a popular make and you can get sample pieces for IIRC £1 each, and various companies cut and edge doors to your requirement. If offered, pay extra for the thicker edging. You can also get matching shelves and décor panels.

I used them for shelves and was very pleased.

there are several similar suppliers.

'Diy top tips on a budget' on Facebook, lots of people put fablon on their cupboard doors

scaryteacher · 13/04/2017 07:43

Vinyl wrap is used with cars and trailers, so gets wet and hot. Dh got his glider trailer done and it is still looking good 3 years on.

Thanks for the info everyone. There seems to be negative reviews of having it done from a few years ago but the issues have been rectified so it looks as if it's now a much better end result than previously.

And as you say, they're used on cars etc in the UK. So they'll get very wet at times

Hi Spanish fly, I know this is a while since you posted but I disagree. Vinyl wrap is an innovative alternative to paint and replacing doors or kitchens. And is more cost effective. As a vinyl wrap installer, it will only fail if it is not installed properly. Most decent vinyl wrap will be heat proof to an extent and should not peel near ovens or hobs if it is installed correctly. If you buy cheap vinyl, then yes it will fail. I have wrapped kitchens, cars and other surfaces with zero issues. Some still wrapped 5 years after first installation.

I did this myself in our kitchen & it looked f*ing amazing for no money. Yes, it's a tricky job & takes time and patience but is SO well worth it. The transformation is instant & the doors look brand new. We went from 80s faintly textured beige to a grey/brown faux wood & I loved it. After this pic was taken I wrapped the worktops too.

@PlumbingQuandry Can I ask where you purchased the woodgrain vinyl wrap from? It looks great!

Another vote for vinyl wrapped doors here too. We had our kitchen cupboard doors replaced with vinyl wrapped slab doors 9 years ago and they're still immaculate, including above the hob. Ours came vinyl wrapped rather than getting our existing doors wrapped though - wonder if that makes a difference to the longevity/quality.

Hi, so I work with architectural vinyl wrap on kitchens and for business uses. It's much thicker and has a greater hold over regular sign vinyl or car vinyl. It can cover counter tops and be stuck to bare (mdf) type wood. It's great stuff and I can highly recommend it.

The best product id say to use is 3m di noc but you can use more cost-effective wrap materials.

I have wrapped over 3000 meters of material this year and can honestly say its a great way to renovate on a budget. not everyone has the budget to go buy a new kitchen.

My kitchen is only 5 years old and cost £12k. Now the vinyl wrapped doors are blistering. Has anybody had any problems in the last 5 years with vinyl wrapped doors? I believe the glue was to blame, but has this maybe been sorted since the glue was changed in 2008?

PigletJohn · 05/10/2021 21:52

I am unsurprised and have nothing to add.

Sorry.
