Would a matt kitchen date less than gloss?

We have a gloss kitchen on order from DIY kitchens but have until next week to change to a different style if we want.

After reading the other thread about what styles will date, I'm now getting cold feet.

Not keen on Shaker or in-frame and we like the fact that acrylic faced mdf (gloss) is easy to clean and hardwearing - but would a painted slab kitchen be less dated in a few years' time?

What's the verdict please?

This is what we currently have on order: www.diy-kitchens.com/kitchens/altino-cashmere/details/

But would this one date less?

DD had a gloss kitchen. Horrendous to keep clean as it showed every mark. Personally I think a neutral wood is less likely to date in a simple style.

Don't they just wipe off though? The thing about wood or Matt is they absorb things like kitchen grease, where as the gloss one wouldn't. The gloss one must shows marks because they sit on the surface, the others don't as they absorb and then they build up the grime over time.

I am in the process of ordering a very similar kitchen (matt) - the kitchen designer wants me to hold back on chosing the colour until the extension is built because the light in the room and your choice of lighting will change the look and feel of the colours.
Can you get doors in different colours to try out at home and see what they look like in the room.
I actually like the yellowy one but my room is north facing and looks quite chilly at the best of times so I want to warm it up a bit.

Love the second one. The first is ok but looks a bit clinical and cold to me. And more likely to date.

I agree with Bluntness - other than outlandish choices (like copper everywhere) what dates a kitchen is it looking tired. So gloss modern will date faster than country style, simply because matte country style suits a few knocks. The rest is down to personal taste.

All of the kitchens you've linked to are a neutral decor I think - you haven't gone for bright blue or similar so I don't think you will have any problems with it looking dated as long as you take care of it.

We've a gloss white kitchen and it is very easy to keep clean. I just wipe the doors down with a damp cloth or a cleaning wipe. Nothing more than that. No issue with fingerprints.

Likewise we have a solid wood worktop and that's nowhere bear as hard to maintain as people made out. Day to day it gets wiped like any other kitchen. Once a year we get someone in to do a sand and repolish - could do it ourself but he doesn't charge much bad it's easier! In between times if we get a mark we might do a brief sand and polish of one area but rarely. Maybe once in between the man coming.

We looked at both, thinking we wanted matt, but felt that the matt finish was in danger of looking a bit cheaper. Went for gloss and it's a dream to clean. Think datedness depends more on colour, accessories and so on.
