House on busy road

Just seen a great house on a busy-ish road. We couldn't afford it on a quieter road. The back of the house and garden get no road noise but the front gets a bit (more than I would like).

They already have new double glazing - would secondary acoustic glazing help too? Does anyone have experience of this. Its a big old stone villa so will have thick stone walls.

We live on a busy road. It nearly put us off buying the house but I'm glad we did as it was so much bigger than the other places we looked at. The house has double glazing and is a solid Victorian so the noise isn't really an issue. We got secondary glazing in our bedroom as that faces the road and you can barely hear a thing.
Parking is also fine. It's on street parking with permit only and is a wide road. I've never had any problems parking.

Also, one good thing about living on a busy road is that it feels very secure - you'd have to be a very ballsy burglar to attempt anything on our street!

Oh, and I have kids and a cat - it's been no problem!

We lived on a busy road and some of our biggest arguments we've ever had were over having the window open on a summer night! The noise of cars drove me insane.

Might not happen with you but it's something to consider!

Oops sorry folks, I started this thread and then went away for a week and our holiday rental had no WiFi! My apologies for seeming so rude

The other good point being raised is if you are the type of person who likes to open your windows to air rooms, it's not ideal when you live next to a road, basically you open the windows, you let the noise in.

No, have never lived on a busy road and will never consider it - a non negotiable for me. The noise, safety (have pre-teens who walk to school / home) and for me, the fact that its cheaper is because in my view, its a massive compromise. Everyone's different though, so it might be compromise you're willing to make but I wouldn't, ever.
