Are Westex the aston martin of carpets as I have been told by someone, was quoted 6k for a westex carpet for 4 bedrooms hallway upstairs and staircase

No idea - but as a comparison we did the same areas with a John Lewis Heather 80/20 twist for £2700 including fitting and VAT.

The only element we didn't take up was disposal of the old carpet and underlay - we just took it to the tip ourselves.

JL also stocks Axminster and Brinton.

Update, went to JL yesterday, gave them measurements for the 4 bedrooms, wasnt sure about the landing and staircase but quote came to about £4800 because I picked a velvet carpet that was 69 quid a sq meter

Guy said the different between that carpet and another 80 20 carpet that was 34 quid was that the velvet would look more high end when laid

Wife wants the top of the range etc but I mean I could get a nice carpet for basically half the quote 2500 which is more in line with your price arghhh, also doesnt appear JL will be having a sale on carpets any time soon

£69 per square metre - ouch! I went for the £21 per square metre 32 oz 80/20 twist because I wanted something heavy duty that would cope with children, plus we were planning to sell so no point in going top of the shop. Plus the velvet finish isn't my cup of tea and two cats ruled out anything looped.

JL sometimes have special buys, so worth keeping an eye out.

I hear what you are saying about the look, but bedrooms are not high traffic areas so I just wouldn't spend £69 psm for bedroom carpets.

I know - the OP's wife sounds like me: I guarantee whatever I pick out will be the most expensive thing in any shop. Then I have to be realistic and let go of the pipe dream.

There's no way I would ever spend that on carpet but I guess it's all relative to how much you can afford to spend.

For me I would rather buy a good quality carpet for about £15-25sqm and spend the rest of the budget on other furnishings which you'd notice more than what's on the floor.

OP, your posts are a little odd because you said 'I picked a velvet carpet that was £69' but then said 'wife wants top of the range'

Your first post was only asking if Westex was the best- but best in terms of what?

Most expensive isn't necessarily the 'best'

It sounds like you want something expensive for the sake of it being expensive/ top of the range rather than any other reason

That's fine if that's what you want but it's a bit of a waste really.

I tend to agree with you guys, 69 is crazy especially on staircase, i have two daughters, 8 and 6 and defintely things will spill and they will run around, i just need a good carpet and will go with the top underlay as I hear good underlay can make an average carpet lovely while bad underlay makes an expensive carpet look crap

Actually - a quality 80:20 carpet for stairs is a good choice.

My dad was a carpet fitter, he use to recommend a 80:20 carpet for stairs. He always said buy a slightly cheaper carpet and the most expensive underlay you can afford.

Plus the fitting is key, a good fitter can make a cheaper carpet look more expensive and vice versa.

I'm having wool loop pole carpet fitted in a few weeks.

£25 per meter plus £6 per meter for super dooper underlay.
Doing 4 rooms, no landing or stairs for £2200

Exactly what cece said. Dh is also a floor layer. 80/20 is the best in my opinion. The velvety carpet looks stunning when first laid but trust me is does not age well at all.

As pp said. Most expensive does not mean best quality.
