What would you do with this hallway?

I'm lacking in inspiration, flooring, wall colours, knock the cupboard under the stairs out to leave it more open. House renovation has melted my head

Please don't tile stairs, the edges are sharp, and they are very slippery.
I would pull up the carpet (paint the floor if necessary but leave it alone for a short period)
Leave the banister it has charm
Change the doorbell to somewhere else or super small less conspicuous
Paint the walls and think about the stairway a bit longer

Think I'm going to go with a pale grey for the walls so maybe a blue-ish tone for the bannister? But if people think that would look a bit mental do not hold back. I've come over a bit Lawrence Llewelyn now maybe 😂 when what I really want is a bit of Kevin McLeod 😁
