How much would this cost?

I'm looking for a ballpark figure really.

We've had a chat with our neighbours yesterday. We're both semi detached but we're not attached, our driveways are next to each other. About 15 years ago, the previous owners of our house (very selfishly!) built a dividing wall between the two driveways. It meant that our neighbours could no longer fit two cars on their drive. We bought the house knowing that we could only fit one car on the drive so we weren't that bothered. It has prayed on my mind for a couple of years that our neighbours must have been able to park two cars at one point. Luckily they're very kind people who wouldn't say boo to a goose and clearly didn't object at the time and have just put up with it. We would all like a section of the dividing wall demolishing as it would benefit us all. It's about 4 metres long before it meets the garden gate where I'd like it to stop and be finished neatly.

I'm wondering if anyone has had anything similar done and roughly know how much it would cost? We're in North Yorkshire.

Just your average brick wall about 3 feet tall. Should have mentioned!

Can you not just hire a breaker and knock it down yourselves?

Knocking down a wall isn't hard, but finishing it off neatly is a little bit more so. I'd reckon it shouldn't be more than a few hundred but it's getting someone interested in such a small job that can be tricky.

How are the drives finished? Are they the same? Tarmac? Block paving? I would get a local landscaper to come and look. It sounds like a job they could squeeze in between larger driveway/garden landscaping jobs

Our drive is a brick patterned concrete jobby, theirs is about 6" lower and just gravel/paving slabs. They don't join, the wall is between.

I didn't know you could hire big tools like that so I'll definitely look into that suggestion thanks...

It's more the nitty gritty of digging right down to the bottom I don't want to do because I don't want to damage our concrete!

How did they fit 2 cars, were they on your side of the drive too?

Mmmm unless IRS a really ugly wall I wouldn't get rid of it. Can't your neighbours widen their gates/entry by removing some of the front wall and extending their drive into their front garden APEC to park two cars?

Red flags in removing the wall would be boundary issues in the future and your drives are at different heights so would look a mess. I think they need to look at adapting their land tbh.
