Does anyone have one something like these? I'm considering removing my very ugly (not original) porch door, but it's so handy for deliveries. Also our main door doesn't have a letter box. Are they any good?

I think they're a good idea as long as they are self-locking and securely fastened to the wall. I'd be happier if it was inside an open porch and out of sight from the road.

btw if you are adding a letterbox to your door, position it as far as possible from the lock, as there are ways of opening the common locks and latches (but not a 5-lever BS deadlock) using a simple home-made tool through the slot. If you have a panel beside the door, on the hinge side, that's a safer place.

It's a upvc door can I add a letter box in it I assumed not? Maybe that would be a better option. And while I'm asking.., is it possible to paint it?

sadly you (or an enterprising burglar) can probably cut through your plastic door with a sturdy breadknife.

but for a neater job, ask around for your local independent who specialises in repairing and adjusting plastic doors and windows. There will be one.

Thank you. I'd love to replace it, but can't really justify the cost. It's hard when your front door(s) are so ugly though, as it's the first thing you see!

only paint it as a last resort. If you are not a good painter it will look worse.

Wash it down well, including top, bottom and jambs, using a soft brush to clean dust, fluff and spiders out of the crevices.. Remove handles and furniture. Give a final clean with green pan scourer and white spirit. Dry off and dust. Apply one flowing coat of oil-based non-drip gloss. You may have to thin it slightly, if so stir it in and leave it overnight for the jelly to reform.

Practice on something plastic first (waste pipes, meter box, etc)
