Our new wool carpet looks like an old jumper! Is this usual?!!

We've not long had 100% wool loop carpet laid and in no time at all it has bobbled on top like a wool jumper. I did expect some piling for a new carpet but I'm wondering if it's ever going to stop! Maybe the problem is not the carpet but my vintage Dyson - not enough suction to remove the piling? Maybe the quality of the carpet is not that good?! Sad We paid £49m which I thought would be enough for decent quality. I'm new to carpet buying - I'm wondering if I've made a big mistake. I was led to believe (by the carpet salesman Hmm) that wool was best.

I think I need to replace or service the Dyson anyway. If anyone has a good recommendation please let me know!

Thanks!

I had the same problem. It all cleared up when we got a new vacuum cleaner.

BikeRunSki · 26/03/2017 17:46

We got a GTech

ggirl · 26/03/2017 17:46

I have a wool carpet and when I was reading the blurb about it on the website it said not to use rotating brush hoover head because it causes bobbles to form, maybe its that.
Mine is a wool twist carpet I think.

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 26/03/2017 17:49

Yes. Took me 2 years to get it looking good all the time. I hand brushed it once a month (yes really) to get the bobbles down.

ReginaPhalange1 · 26/03/2017 17:51

Get a different vacuum cleaner- suction not rotating one.

You shouldn't use an upright vacuum cleaner on a loop pile.

80sMum · 26/03/2017 17:54

Crossed posts with Regina!

yellowbirdie · 26/03/2017 19:37

Thank you! I didn't know that - you would have thought the carpet shop might of mentioned it! The carpet attachment is a rotating one so that explains it! I'm off to investigate a GTech.

Don't know about wool carpets, but my gtech has a rotating brush...

dilapidated · 26/03/2017 20:22

We have same sort of carpet.
Been down a year and use a Miele Hoover.
Still looks as good as the day it was installed

namechangedtoday15 · 26/03/2017 20:31

Can anyone tell me which hoovers don't have a rotating brush. Got the same problem.

eternalopt · 26/03/2017 20:44

I would have though cylinder hoovers would all be ok? No rotate by brushes in the heads?

TupperwareTat · 26/03/2017 20:46

Look at the Bosch Athlet too.

BikeRunSki · 26/03/2017 20:46

Ah. Our carpet is twist, not Loop. Yes, the GTech has rotating brushes.

ggirl · 26/03/2017 23:01

Henry Hoover doesn't have a rotating brush I don't think , not sure though.

eternalopt · 27/03/2017 01:36

*rotating, not rotate by

TBF, I'd expect it not to bobble much for 49 million quid Clem

You made me laugh Clem. I've had some wine too.

PatSajack · 27/03/2017 05:55

Our Miele canister allows you to turn the rotating brush on or off. We've never had pilling on our wool loop carpet.

I have a cylinder Dyson and it has two heads - one rotating brush, one not. Most cylinders do not have a rotating brush

yellowbirdie · 27/03/2017 12:58

£49 million - I wish! If that was the case I wouldn't be doing the vacuuming!! Grin

Thanks for the replies.
