Living next to a canal

Hello mil is considering buying a new build flat which over looks a canal. Can anyone list the pros and cons of this please ?

We lived by a canal for many years but it was very rural. No rats / smells / drunks. Loads of wildlife to watch, long boats to wave at as they passed. It was blissful. I miss it.

Ah missed a page. I see ours was in a very different location

Haunt I see some beautiful houses on the walks we go on. It must be very relaxing to have that view at the end of your garden. My main concern was the flat in question was extremely close to canal. Oh well the search continues
