To have a hob on island or not?

Anyone had a hob on their island? We will be having wrap around seating at one end of the island so the nearest chair would be 80-90cm away from the hob so should be safely out of reach of the children.
We weren't going to have the hob on the island but are now considering it. Any advice welcome!

We have a Luxair Anzi www.luxairhoods.com/ceiling-cooker-hoods/ceiling-cooker-hoods-large/ceiling-cooker-hoods-stainless-steel-slimline-fits-210mm-joists i think we gotbit when it was 10-20% off - they have offers quite regularly.

You need to check the m3 extraction rate - we have a large open plan room and there were very few hoods suitable with a good enough extraction rate.

Thanks everyone. We have decided against having the hob on the island now!

I have an induction hob on an island (dark granite so hob virtually invisible). I really didn't want a large hood so have one of these extractors, which again is barely noticeable

Previous flat had hob in the island (ok, it was actually a peninsular, but whatever) and I loved it!

Social, easy to serve up, extractor fan didn't take any valuable wall space so had lots of cupboard space.

No issues with keeping it clean - generally ate at the dining table, this was more a spot to sit and have a drink and nibble whilst someone was cooking. But like, it isn't THAT hard to wipe down the island if that bothers you.

Thanks outandin we went for that Anzi one! Smile

I know this is a zombie thread, but wondering if people were still around and if so, how they felt about their hobs on an island/peninsula 7 years later?!

We're thinking of getting an induction hob on a large peninsula, which has a table section on the end to sit down to eat, with a pop up down draft extractor...

We have just had a new kitchen extension and have put our induction hob on our peninsula which faces out into the room so I will be able to chat to people, look out onto our garden and watch tv too.

Thank you!

@LindaDawn one month on, how's it going? And can I ask what make / model your hob and extractor are please? Do you have a hood above or a recirculating down draft extractor? (we've just put a deposit down on our kitchen and the designer has quoted us for a Caple one, but we're not sure).

Ya we have our job on the island. Means I can look out onto the patio and beyond the back garden rather than facing a wall. Been very easy to chat to everyone in the kitchen whilst cooking rather than having my back turned

We have just put a hob on our 90cm wide peninsula and it works really well.

We have a Bora down draft extractor induction hob vented underneath to a wall outside (so not a recirculating one). We don’t have a hood. It is going really well. Only 60cm as just the 2 of us mostly. Working really well. No smells.

Our friends have just chosen a pop up extractor for their new kitchen but not fitted yet.
