aising roof for loft conversion, can we reuse exitsting roof?

I am looking at various options for getting maximum room and headroom for loft conversion of our bungalow and came across this design. Any idea if we do this, will we still need a whole new roof (new trusses etc) or will we be able to reuse the existing stuff?

We reused roof tiles, but nothing else. But the new roof was quite a different shape, plus probably done to a very different spec from the much older roof.

You can definitely reuse the tiles. I guess the problem with reusing trusses is I assume the internal engineering would be different? At the moment you will have them spanning the loft at regular intervals, but in this more open space you would want fewer.

May I ask around how much did it cost to have new roof and what size is it?

I'm not sure how much it will help as I only know the cost for the whole project which may be very different from yours.

It was 45k plus VAT. About 5m by 5m - bedroom plus large shower room and small landing.

Dismantling old roof, building up new first floor walls (wood frame, tile hung, slight overhang) knocking through from existing house (this was first floor above existing ground floor, next to existing first floor), completely new roof line, two nice large wooden windows, some decorative timber. Decoration, bathroom fittings, plumbing, electrics, tiling etc.

I doubt that reusing tiles made much difference to the cost to be honest, but it looks much better (period house)

Architect and local builder. So architect's fees were on top of that.

It wasn't really a loft conversion because they needed to build that part of the first floor from scratch after removing the old roof. And they were no stairs involved.
