Where to buy naice furniture

We are about to move from our first home which is furnished with cheapy ikea and odd bits of Argos flat pack. It's seen better days so we want to buy some decent, solid wood, grown up stuff.

But where from?! We had a look at barker stonehouse but weren't too keen... like habitat. Looking for contemporary with a vintage twist!

Ideas from experienced naice furniture buyers appreciated Smile

This might sound like odd, advice, but look at the Hotel Tresanton website for inspiration. I've stayed there a few times and most of the furniture is saleroom stuff that has been painted/renovated. It looks amazing IMO.

The building itself is not amazing either - it's a former yacht club and is in no particular architectural style, so the elegance is all down to the furniture and decor. Here's a link: Tresanton photos

Oh wow - lots of responses! Thank you for all the suggestions. The budget is a very sensible point to have raised! Maybe not £11k for a sofa Shock we are happy to pay for good quality but for example think next looks shoddy for the £. And yes, think you are right about an incremental approach. Very giddy about having a whole house to do up - new kitchen and bathrooms too!

Hadn't realise ikea did hard wood as do like their designs and will check out all the websites. I love the upcycled furniture look as per etsy / Facebook sites but husband not so keen. I'm getting a dresser for the kitchen and that's my limit!

Fozleyplum that's a great idea re hotel websites and treaaton looks ace. Not sure if anyone's been to the Swan at newby bridge but could go for a more muted version of their look.

Look at Loaf . Lovely.

JoJoSM2 · 20/03/2017 10:40

Oh, just looked at the Swan. If that's the style, then I second Loaf, Swoon Editions, also Maison du Monde, Graham and Green and Sweetpea and Willow for mid-range sturdy stuff.

spiney · 20/03/2017 10:44

Also Rose and Grey. And Cox and Cox.

Second Made, John Lewis, Habitat. We have a nice sofa from Marks and Spencer, as well as one from Love your home. www.love-your-home.co.uk/

Just looked at the Swan and if you like their fabric/wallpaper you could take a look could have a look at Designers Guild. They make furniture in all their fabrics.

I'm not sure if it's your style but we got a gorgeous double bed from we-r-wood. They delivered it and was easy to assemble with instruction etc. Most of the wood is solid pine with a varnish. They do bookcases and tables etc too. Not sure if they do different wood, they might be able to give you a quote if you'd rather use a higher quality wood!

Gorgeous furniture. If you're near Yorkshire visit the showroom but they do deliver all over the UK and build anything that needs building (usually beds apparently). One of the drivers is lovely too, not that im related to him or anything Wink
