moving a bedroom wall?

We might have the chance to buy a family property but it has 2 large double bedrooms and a properly tiny small one. The small one is roughly the size of a single bed in either direction.

I was wondering if it would be crazy to move a wall somewhere to make the small one bigger.

Alternatively the 2 girls could share a room and use the third as an office but it seems a shame to have them.share when they don't currently.

Is it a mad idea? Very expensive?

There's no point changing with the bathroom as the bathrooms smaller.

Room size is only aproblem in that one is a huge double and one is tiny. At the moment they both have smallish rooms which is fine but the inequality of one having room for lego, stuff on the floor, desk and not the other is more the problem. It was a huge issue when I was growing up that my sister had a huge room and I had the tiny one!

The wall could well be structural and supporting the roof.

If you could get away without having to change a window it would be totally worth it moving the wall.

Can you post a floorplan or a pic of the house? Sounds a lot like our house and there's no way to make the smaller one bigger really - to make it wider you would infringe on the bay window in the room next to it and to make it longer (which would be a bit daft in our case as the room's already narrow and long) you would cut up the stairs. We have a loft conversion done by previous occupant which is fabulous but would probably be a lot of money. I'm expecting our second child and I think they'll share the bigger bedroom to be honest - for at least a while, later one can head loft-ward. The smaller bedroom we will be using as a study.

We have had a similar dilemma and have decided against moving the whole wall as we don't want to have to alter the larger bedroom's window.

We are planning to knock through the centre of the wall between box rm and double room and create an alcove. This will mean we can put a large sliding door wardrobe into the alcove in the box room which will solve storage problems without encroaching on floor space. And the larger room next door will have what will look like a large chimney breast.

If that all makes sense..

We did this in a previous house but instead of moving a whole wall, we divided the wall and created a alcove either side which where used for all storage. The box room gained no floor space but gained a 1.5 meter wide by 2 meter high storage area. Expensive for what we got but made a huge difference.

We were quoted £1500 to move a wall to make 3rd bedroom bigger. We didn't do it due to lack of funds but our neighbours have and it makes a massive difference .
