Bidet versus water spray thing?

I'm doing up the bathroom and really want a bidet - or the effect of a bidet. Downsides: 1) really not keen on the extra piece of furniture in the bathroom, 2) don't like the notion of the walk from the toilet to the bidet. The integrated bidet/toilet combinations look awful (unless there's some secret place that makes nice and hygienic looking ones?). Alternatively, I'm wondering about the hand held spray thing. Firstly, can anyone tell me what this is called? I came across them a lot while travelling and think it's a great idea. I'm guessing plumbers will know about this and be able to install it? Do any of you have experiences of these things?

We had this fitted: JAXI KIT Luxury Bidet Set (MUSLIM SHOWER SHATTAF KIT) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B007AQVAMY/ref=cmswwrcpptai_-o8VybBX978W8

It was a request from DH when we got the bathroom redone. I think he uses it a lot. Personally I never have but like a previous poster said it's great for cleaning the loo. Also, I know you said you're not selling but it's small and discreet and wouldn't put me off buying a house.

Have a look at the website wudumate.com they specialise in ablution systems for the home as well as commercial buldings and mosques. Very high end products and they supply variations of what you're looking for. Not sure how to link to Web page, sorry

Meant to add that all systems at wudumate have specific water flow to stop the back wash and contamination.

We use to live in the ME and my DH loved the bum douche thing. He plans on installing one when we do our bathroom. Think they are a better option to a bidet.

Thanks for the link yougottobekidding! I know I keep wavering but I get excited about different options and then keep coming back to the hand held douche thing so I think that's the way I'm going to go. I'm just going to think about whether I get a company in separately to install it after I have the bathrooms done as I want a plumber who's fitted lots of these and knows what they're doing.

The electronic Japanese bidets do not jet if nobody is sitting on the heated seat. They are too sophisticated for that ;).

We have one and it is epic.

we have a robo-loo with remote control, and a sensor lid, and a light and a bum dryer.

it came with the house. we have absolutely no idea how to work it. it beeps and puts the lid up if you so much as step into the bathroom. i hate it.

god, that doesn't help at all, does it?

We have one - Geberit Aquaclean - in part of the house we fitted out for a disabled family member. They're brilliant. Our one doesnt look "disabled" or weird in any way. Also the jets (they're more gentle than jets) dont operate without weight on the seat so they can't put water on the floor. I dont know what the problem is with bidets/Japanese toilets at all! They're so hygienic. Ours will give you a nice little sprinkle with warm water and then you get warm air on your below decks to dry and you dont even need bog roll, its all done.

Oh, I've misunderstood about the Japanese toilets. Various websites show videos of how they function and they always show a jet of water shooting out of the toilet! It makes more sense that there would be a mechanism checking for weight on the seat.

I suppose they have to do that to demonstrate the function? Honestly, i think they're amazing. Wonderful for when you've got your period.

In Australia they're called Little Squirt. If that helps.

We need to redo out bathroom and we were planning on putting a bidet in but now will have to look up the Japanese toilets available in the UK. The coldness of the water puts me off the spray things.

blackcountrygirl we have a Hyundai.

We bought it here
www.thebidetshop.com.au/categories/Hyundai%20Bidet/

I'm sure searching UK and those brands will bring up where to buy them. I think the Coway have better reviews.
