Extractor fans

Can anyone recommend their toilet extractor fan ? I'm looking for one that's not too noisy (intend to hook it up with a PIR with a light switch). I have never thought to look for the model details of ones I've come across that I haven't noticed because they aren't noisy....

(Maybe I'm over thinking all this... Perhaps the first one I find in screwfix will be fine)

Look at the quietmark website - specially chosen for quietness. We have one of these, can't remember which but it's quiet!

Get one which has a separate switch so you can turn it off when you've had enough of the noise.

some of the modern ones (priced above the £6 that builders like to pay) are very quiet, thus removing one of the excuses for not using them. Better quality ones do not quickly wear out the motor bearings and screech or grind.

I'm quite happy with auto-on with the light switch. If you go for a PIR you may have to wave your arms and legs at intervals during your bath or while reading Gloria Soames on the WC.

If you have access to a loft or other space above the ceiling you can have a ducted fan that can be more powerful and quieter than any wall fan. The reason for hiding it above the ceiling is that they are a bit unsightly.

If you do have a wall fan, a 5 or 6 inch (125mm or 150mm) can run slower and quieter than the typical 4 inch (100mm) while also being more powerful.

Don't fit it directly above the bath or shower as the safety regulations are then more stringent and expensive.

I have this one and it is mega quiet. I sometimes forget to turn off the bathroom light becase I can;t hear the fan out of the bathroom.

It is a total revelation after a super noisy on in my last place that we had to turn off at the switch at night as it would wake me up when DP went to the bathroom in the night (and I am a v heavy sleeper).

We had a CHZ Silent extractor in our last house and you could barely hear it running. Ours wasn't a basic version as it was in the bathroom and so we had a humidistat one for when the shower was running, but I think they do more standard ones for toilet rooms.

Thank you all. We have the ducting setup in the ceiling. I'd like a PIR as I hate grubby wet light switches and pulls. And now I know which silent brands to look for.
