Hi guys, I'm pretty new to this so hope im doing this right..! I'm a full time mum to 3 children and my partner (we've been together 15 years but not married yet!) has a good job in central Bristol.
My children are happy at school and life is good... however I yearn to live in the countryside and close to beaches... and the need for a slower pace of life... I've been doing loads of research into the south hams area, particularly Ivybridge.. just wondering if their is anyone in a similar situation to me, and or lives in that area? Is the grass really greener?! Thank you for reading. Sara xx

I probably was for a year!!!! Who was your tutor, and was LR your HoY

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 02/03/2017 18:23

I'd stay where you are to be honest. You're only a couple of hours away anyway, you're settled, your OH has a good job, and the South Hams is insular and expensive. It's also a pain to get to, and that's speaking as someone who lives in West Cornwall.

No way scary Grin you probably were. LR (formerly LC) was my HoY and I was in ACS tutor 😂 I'm bowing out now before I name myself! Sorry for the hijack OP

Thank you everyone for your reply... it's nice to hear what you all think... My eldest son will finish primary school in a few years so we will look to move just before. In the meantime we'll be exploring south hams in April over easter half term...

PurpleDaisies me too. And we just looked at a four bed today in amazing countryside for £275k ish.

OP look at Somerset or Gloucestershire (depending which bit of Bristol your DH works in).

A family friend of ours moved out of London and bought a shop in Totnes and a beautiful house in Stoke Gabriel with his wife and son. They absolutely love it and both places are fantastic, I always look forward to visiting - would recommend looking at those locations...

I'd say do what you feel is right, I think it depends on your personality. I live in Somerset in the countryside and others would hate it here because there isn't lots of exciting stuff to do but I love it and would never ever ever move to a city. I'm halfway between Bristol and Exeter with easy access to the M5 and I still can't describe how much I love it. I used to work in Bristol and commute everyday, it only took about 45 minutes and I'd much rather live here and drive that than live there. But yeah if you want a quieter, more rural life, then move 😊

Saraforte123 · 07/03/2017 14:44

Thank you :) Yes, I agree... I feel pretty suffocated living a city lifestyle, too many people, cars... everywhere is too busy. I feel much more content when I'm in the countryside and away from all the hustle and bustle.. and I feel my kids will benefit from rural living at this point in their lives. Life is too short, what's the point in staying somewhere which doesn't suit your needs. I'm glad you're happy where you are in Somerset.

@Saraforte123 I know how you feel. I don't think I could even live in town and it's not even that busy there! I honestly just think everybody has different desires and wants as to what kind of place they want to live in and your partner working in the city doesn't mean you should have to stay there

Hi, I just wondered if you had made the move to Devon? We've been keen to make the move for years, our boys are currently 3,7 and 9 and the move feels even more daunting the older they get. Like you we are happy where live, the boys love school but this is a dream we have had for years...

topmummy3 · 19/01/2018 11:34

i think you should go for it!! x
