Why on why does my heating keep coming on?

It's a new system, put in last month with a combi boiler and wireless thermostat. The engineer set it up so that it comes on at preset times. All fine for a few weeks. Over the last few days it's decided to come on at night for no reason. It should be off from 6.30pm to 6.30am but it's 11pm and the radiators are on full blast. The preset hasn't changed, still says off from 6.30pm and the thermostat clock is correct but I'm in a bloody sauna. I've had to turn off the heating at the boiler as we're cooking.

Nothing in the instructions to explain wtf is causing this.

What's the temperature on the thermostat set to?

I find it hard to believe that a new heating system would lack a controllable thermostat.

I've tried turning it down to as low as 13. Makes no difference. We're sweating. It's clearly not below 13 in here but the heating is on full blast.

I feel ill and I actually can't afford this either.

WHY is it on?

I think you need to contact whoever installed it.

Our installer faffed with all the levels while he did the finishing off and paperwork.

might be a silly suggestion, but if turning the pre-set down didn't work did you try turning it up?

You mean turn the temp up on the thermostat?

Is it the installer I contact? I've no idea what's happening all of a sudden.

Failing PJ turning up, this happened to me last week - but mine isn't a combi boiler. The problem with mine was the 3-way valve. So worth checking out your diverter valve? Or as a second guess, an electrical fault in the printed circuit board?

I had issues with my thermostat not going off and I did three things two of which helped and the last cured it. Firstly I discovered the battery in the wireless thermostat, I know this sounds obvious but I wasn't thinking properly and replaced it then relinked the wireless thermostat to the boiler (there's a box next to the boiler that is the receiver) this worked for a few days then it happened again so I called my friend who installs boilers and he said that because I have 3 floors and it's a big house the boiler may be struggling to get the heat up to the top floors (always chilly up there) he explained lots of complicated things that I don't understand but the solution was to turn all the radiators down on the lower floors just a notch or two and it worked! No more thermostat freaking out. It might help...

Eyesty This was exactly the same as us - drove us potty. I think it is indeed the frost setting in the attic - if goes below 15 degrees it came on. I just turned the bedroom radiators off. Probably not the best solution.

Also, if it doesn't come on and you want it to, put the wireless thing in the fridge.

I loved my old boiler. With a dial. And an override switch. 🙁

wireless devices sometimes go wrong and lose contact.

Take the transmitter (thermostat) to the receiver (by the boiler and observe if the receiver responds to the commands of the transmitter.

There might be a light on it, or at least you should be able to hear the boiler start and stop.

To clarify what PigletJohn said, t eindividual components might work but be badly placed. I can sit on the bog, all of 20' from our router and get a really poor wifi signal (I know!) because of the 3' deep chimne breast between me and the router.

Your thermonstat might suffer a similar poor positioning problem.

Mine did this. After a lot of investigating and a replacement controller, it turned out next door had fitted the same panel and their panel was controlling my heating. It had a pin code for frequency but they were set almost the same, so their timer was controlling my boiler.

It had a 5 number code which determined the frequency of the communication between the boiler and the control panel so we had ours changed. By chance 3 of the digits had been set the same. Good luck!

I know this is an old thread but I couldn't find one more recent.

On Friday my heating started coming on at random times and also the thermostat was reading 5' higher than the set temperature.

Changed the batteries, turned everything off at the plug, reset and didn't work. I then found this thread, changed the frequency on the controller and it's been 24 hours and timer seems to be back on track now.

Hopefully this has fixed things as I cancelled my boiler breakdown cover and only 1 week left until it expires 😅
