i think i may have sent a bit too much time on pinterest...

Our bathroom is smallish (2.5x3m square) with a lowish ceiling and north facing with a tiny window. We moved into our house 10 years ago and this is the last room for me to do. It currently is cream with a fetching grey coloured suite.

Would I be completely crazy to paint it really dark ( either black or navy)with a white suite. I am hopefully adding a picture but there are a few like this on pinterest. I'm going for womb like and a nice cozy place to soak in the tub rather than the adams family. For context we have a second bath/showerroom for the children so this would be for grown ups only.
I'm pretty sure DH will veto but wondered what you thought

Thanks for all your ideas. Its really helpful. Also loving the blog mentioned up-thread

I already have my eye on a big gilded mirror to go over the sink and I have some botanical prints which I'm going to find nice frames for.

Currenly liking F and B Hague Blue, downpipe and stiffkey blue... I'll get testers for all and see how dark I can persuade DH to go!

Unfortunately we need to get ris of the grey suite- it is really shabby looking. My mission for today is to get him DH onboard ( as hes quite handy and will do the plumbing) and find a suite I like ( thinking of going for an inset bath on a wooden plinth). ( see above for further pinterest inspiration). Ideally I'd like a freestanding bath but we live in a very old house with crappy access so whatever we bring in we'll have to haul through a bedroom window ( yes really!), so it needs to be an acrylic bath not more than 45 cm deep :)

r.e. lightng currently have a crappy 4 halogen spotlight bathroom light... its so hard to find nice bathroom lights if you have a low ceiling- may get some spotlights put in instead. Lots to think about. very exciting. I will post before and after once done

I've painted 2 walls in my north facing living room f&b railings and the floor is downpipe. I love it, dh was worried but now loves it. My south facing bathroom has a black floor and I'm going to use the rest of the railings paint in there.

Absolutely go for it. I have the teeniest bathroom imaginable and plan on painting it either very dark green, blue or red when we redo it.

BroomstickOfLove · 25/02/2017 12:31

...With lots of tiles, so that it looks a bit like a Victorian public lavatory.

Yes, what she said ^ ^

Just currently painting my bathroom Hague blue! It's looking good. It's a dark blue with hints of green in, hard to explain. I also had the tester for Stiffkey blue, that's a lovely dark bluey grey..

tittysprinkles · 26/02/2017 07:46

Yes definitely do it! We did our small dark downstairs toilet with white panelling up to above the sink, then F&B Vardo on the walls and ceiling. Don't be afraid to paint the ceiling with the wall colour as well to get a really enclosed effect.

I imagine Hague or Stiffkey blue would look beautiful contrasted with gold framed pictures and mirrors. Please post photos when you've finished.

Our downstairs shower room is due a refit this year.

No windows so again, always needs a light on - it will likely be dark grey for most of it (including ceiling if I can get it painted whilst DH is out of the way! If he wants to change it back to white then he can crack on Grin)

We have no natural light in our bathroom and it's black, though the sink, bath and toilet and the tiles round bath and sink are white. Floor is dark grey tiles. It looks brilliant - really cosy and relaxing for having a bath in.

Just in the process of doing our bathroom a very dark green grey (dulux Forest Grey) . It's an ensuite so not massive with one small velux so it will be dark anyway.

It is clearly not finished yet but am really happy with how it is looking so far.

Go for it I say
