White paint for whole house

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a recommendation of a good white paint to use throughout my house, there is too much choice out there I don't know where to start.

I have a newish house (built 80's) and I'm going for a Scandinavian look (white walls and real oak floors). I don't want to go for something too stark/clinical or too creamy.

I know Crown - Sail white is supposed to be a lovely white.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Many thanks!

Timeless isn't white...

Dulux Jabot white is a lovely white.

Another Timeless fan but have used Sail White too and really liked it for all the things you are looking for

Suzyrut - could you tell me what month is on the cover of the House Beautiful magazine with the 20% discount code please? I have a huge painting project on the go and 20% saving would be a massive help to me!

(I never understand why the month they say on the mag doesn't correspond with the month we are acually in! or is it just me?)

I really don't think you can go wrong with one of the mass market generic whites. We've used Timeless, Sail White and Jasmine White and been happy with all of them. IiRC sail white is the closest to pure white so perhaps best for what you're after. It might be worth just using dulux trade white though, it should be much cheaper.

EineKleine, I bought the samples today and think sail white might be the best. Is dulux trade white quite similar in colour?

Trade white is plain white, but allegedly without the extra "edge" of brightness that pure brilliant white has. You might find it too stark. But last time I checked it was a good bit cheaper than "named" dulux white so worth considering.

I think sail white will fit the bill but it's so pale, for me it's verging into questioning whether it is worth the extra money over trade white. Doesn't mean I'd necessarily pick it over a named white, but I would consider it.

is the sail white the lightest of your samples or do you have some that are "too white"? If the latter, I think trade white will be too white too.

We used Trade White when we had a lot of painting to do. And I was happy with it at the time. But, it's starting to look tatty now. I've also used PBW and Sail White (have used both) and I think the finish is better.

I want brilliant white...the whiter the better.

Usually use Dulux. Is that one to go for.

Probably going to have to get new carpets as well :-( or ;-)

Screw fix trade Matt emulsion is a brilliant white with a chalky finish. Cheap as chips but quality is very good.

Hi ifonly. It is this month's House Beautiful (March). I only bought it a couple of weeks ago so should still be on sale.

Finally my interiors magazine addiction paid off!

Well I've tested Timeless, waay too creamy for my liking. Sail white has a grey hue to it which I'm not keen on as it looks a bit cold. So far my favourite is dulux cotton white. It's white but has the slight warmth I'm looking for. I'm going to try out dulux trade white to compare. But I think cotton white might be the right white for me Smile

I just use any trade pure brilliant white in both my own home and rental properties and it definitely doesn't look clinical when you have all your stuff back in.

It's just a nice mellow feel about it, but is still white!
