Is there a standard depth for worktops if using free standing kitchen appliances?

A quick look on the internet shows there is no standard as such, but they tend to be similar. It depends on the material and the supplier. You need the worktop to cover the cabinets, including any void for pipes and cables behind them, and to overhang slightly at the front. If the doors are slab doors, that adds depth to the cabinets. You also need a bit of extra depth so the worktop can be trimmed at the back if necessary if the walls aren't straight. Most freestanding appliances are a maximum 60cm deep.

@wowfudge Thank you. So, if most free standing appliances are 60 cm deep the common sense would be to allow an extra 5 cm or plus for sockets, cables and pipes. Expecially cooker/oven?

Most appliances like cookers are designed to fit in a run of standard units even with electrics. The front of my cooker is slightly forward of worktop, so the door opens. Fridges/freezer etc are sized to go under a worktop. I would think the only call for extra depth Is if you want to hide a non integrated appliance behind a door, as ppl do with washing machines.
