If your loft conversion/extension was permitted development, did you get a lawful development certificate before starting work?

Just that really! We're doing a permitted development loft conversion and the loft conversion company we're using just asked us if we want to get a lawful development certificate before they start work. They said that it means they can't start work for two months.

If you are sure the works are permitted development, you can always apply for the certificate after the world have been completed, if you are planning to sell in the next four years (after 4 years it becomes lawful anyway if it wasn't)

I currently work in planning enforcement. Most people in my experience don't bother to get a certificate. It would probably be 8 weeks to get issued. Longer if the planning department is short staffed.

Oh lovely thank you both.

We've just had to wait for planning permission for our kitchen extension so I'd like not to apply now if it's ok. And now I'm thinking that if we don't move for 4 years we won't have to pay the £150 for it!

We did when we converted the loft on our last house, mainly because we wernt 100% sure that the council would agree that the back of our house was the back, but they did so was fine!
