Stupid question about bathrooms

I really want to replace our bathroom. Just replace bath, separate shower, sink (toilet seperate room) and retile. Had our kitchen redone last year and DH can't bear the thought of having builders in again. So how long would it take? How much, assuming we went for reasonably priced suite and tiles? Also who would do it? Builder? Plumber? Bathroom expert??

There are people who specialise in doing bathrooms. Unfortunately, it would take a couple of weeks although they wouldn't be working all the time - waiting for stuff to dry etc takes time.

Ours took ten days. Bathroom and separate downstairs toilet with sink. Just the two of them and they worked super long hours though.

Plumber. Ours took 4 days but is a small room shower over bath probably 2m square.

I had a plumber plus lad take 1 day plus a bit to refit an existing bathroom, including repositioning everything, therefore changing the pipes and wastes. I did the plastering. Tiling not included. There are people who make a career out of tiling and can do it faster and better. A local plumber should know a good local tiler.

You will probably need to replace the floor because it might be chipboard and fit only for bonfires. I recommend WBP ply in 18/22mm or whatever the old floor thickness is. Again, plumbers are usually not good carpenters. I provided panels cut to size so easy to screw down. B&Q will cut for you. All joins must be on joists or noggins so take the skirting off and measure carefully. If you are having the floor tiled ask the tiller's advice. You need a very rigid floor.

IMO most bathroom fitters can do a bit of plumbing, a bit of tiling, a bit of woodwork and can use filler and silicone. Master of none.

Remember that your bathroom is fit to use as soon as the sanitaryware is plumbed and fixed. The tiling doesn't have to be done immediately. You can paint the walls yourself to make it look decent in an hour or two. Don't splash the bath.

It would depend on whether it was being done by one person or a team. If you have, say, 3 people doing it, it could probably be done in a couple of days, maybe 3. If it's one person doing everything, then it will be 3 times longer.

Usually worth getting specialist tiler: they will do a much better job than a plumber having a go. Very different skill set.
