Rattling roof

So I am now in my loft in the bedroom which has the slopey bit right under the roof and there is a strong wind. There is a terrific rattling but it doesn't sound like loose tiles, more like a loose metal panel but how can that be? Is this normal?

The rattling could be either your guttering or your fascia boards.
If it is actually coming from your roof then it will more likely be roof felt underneath your tiles. Roof tiles don't normally rattle and it could just be the direction of the wind.
No need to worry, these things are normal and your roof should be safe.

Do you have an extractor fan in your loft anywhere? I sleep in a loft conversion and have an extractor over the bathroom bit. When it's windy the outside flap for the extractor rattles in the wind. It took me a while to work out what it was when I first slept up there!

Yes I have an extractor in the loft bathroom ceiling!

If it's one with the flappy grill (technical term - can't think of a better description!) over it, I think we've solved the mystery of where the rattling is coming from!
