DD's bedroom is bright orange; if I'm selling do I need to repaint it?

She's moved out so she doesn't really care

But I'd rather not bother unless it makes a big difference

What does everyone think?

Yes to not using magnolia! Who uses that colour any more? . Go for a pale grey, any shade of white or even pale blue. Borrowed Light by F and B really gives an illusion of light. Or Dimpse. We have just used Wevet from F and B. Excellent clean grey white.

Well if my handyman can remove the shelves (possibly but unlikely - my dad a structural engineer & building contractor couldn't without major replastering and an anglegrinder) the wardrobe can go up into that corner

Then a double bed will just fit next to it, but with no bedside cabinet & a small dressing table at the end of the bed - there is also an alcove which will be staged as a desk

Whether it will look bigger/more cramped I don't know

Single bed then! No bedside table screams Small Room. Gosh - who put that shelf in? Sounds awful!

PickAChew · 08/02/2017 23:56

It wouldn't put us off, in fact DS1 would probably decide that room was his!

We are, however, painting over his own orange walls, mostly because they're scuffed and he's picked bits off here and there, plus we've taken out a manky old wardrobe, leaving a wall that needs fixing. And that's despite selling the house as a bit of a project.

Well would it be better to make the alcove into a wardrobe instead of a desk & flatpack the big wardrobe?

Then you'd fit a double with bedside cabinet each side & a dressing table in easily

I just remembered I have a white wardrobe with sliding doors in another room That would fit better & leave room for a double bed (because of the sliding doors) & it would fit under cupboards on the wall easily

Fitted double bed in, with wardrobe with sliding doors, 2 bedside tables & a much smaller dressing table

Phew I'm knackered

I start painting on Monday (I hope)

hi KM! I had an "awwwww!" moment looking at her room and seeing all her dancing trophies still on the shelves! my ds has loads of trophies too, I'll be sad when they eventually move out, its quite a wrench isnt it. How is she doing with her dancing now, is she away studying still?

and in answer to your question, I dont see anything wrong with her room, but all the telly programmes seem to say paint everything neutral colours so I'd go for the pale grey you have already.

A white canvas permits prospected buyers to create the image of their perfect home when entering rooms, whereas imposed background colours and fitments block their imagination.

katymac · 12/02/2017 15:14

yes I packed them all awy - it was very sad

She is down in corringham now in 2nd year at Performers! & taking her tap DDI at easter & her modern in the summer

Grey it is

Yes, paint it.

It wouldn't put me off at all, I'd rather be able to put my own stamp on a house. I hated the colours when we moved here, but it didn't put me off buying. I was gutted that it had a new kitchen as it meant I hated it but couldn't justify ripping it out. We'd looked at another property in the same road that needed a lot doing to it and I would have preferred that but it sold before we were in a position to put an offer in.

I accept I'm in a minority though!

If I loved a house something like that wouldn't put me off.
