Kitchen wooden worktops - yes or no?

I want to take off our naff worktops and put wooden ones on instead (prob from Ikea) but just wondering if they are a pain with marking and do you have to treat them every so often with a wax or something similar?
If you have them would you get them again?

Personally no. We moved into a house where they hadn't been looked after and we could never get them back up to scratch. There are so many other (and just as cheap) alternatives these days that are low maintenance.

The kitchen is the one place where you can't be precious about worktops (but woe betide anyone not using a coaster on my dining table or coffee table!)

I really really love the look of wood but just knew after doing research it probably wouldn't be practical for me. We opted for granite in the end. ☺

Yes. 10 years no problems. Oil once a year. Did put a lot of oil on, including the cut edges when installing.

I think they are a marmite thing. But I love them.

In our last house we put wooden work tops in.

When we moved here and replaced the kitchen we chose granite instead.

'Nuff said!

Nope. Never again! Had them put in looked beautiful hated HATED them from then on. Never felt clean, they scratch , stain, go mouldy round the sink. Just had kitchen done picked granite, love it . I would never have it again.

We have walnut and used osmo oil to seal. Still looks great, no black round sink. Personally I love the warm look and feel of wood.

We have iroko work tops and haven't really looked after them at all. Oiled them when we moved in 7 years ago and not since so they were relatively damaged.

We're looking to sell so have sanded them down this weekend and re-oiled and they look as good as new.

So even with abuse they can be restored.

Can anyone tell me which laminate they have used instead of wood?
I've been looking around but none of the laminate I've seen looks very realistic.
I've been toying with the idea of a plain white laminate on the side where the sink is and then real wood on the island.

Cheers. Love the pics, they look beautiful! We don't have a huge worktop area so I might go for it!
