Has anyone installed their own kitchen?

I have a utility room that is mostly used for laundry and I would like to put some units and a worktop on one wall. I'm thinking of doing this myself since it won't involve plumbing or wiring.

Am I mad? And if not, where's the best place to get some kitchen units for diy?

I have installed several Ikea ones. It is very straightforward, especially now that they have lovely hanging rails that your units hook onto and which keeps them all level. However, unless the worktop is a straight run (no cut ins, no corners), I'd get a pro in to do that.

I've done similar, ie not an actual kitchen, just base and wall units (in my case to create cupboard storage in a tricky alcove). Absolute doddle if you're fairly confident at DIY, and plan it carefully.

I used Ikea units and doors, so flatpack. Make sure your measurements are accurate. What will you do with any gaps at the end of the run of units - you might need some filler panels. Are you going to be covering up any sockets, in which case how will you access them (cutout panels at back of units?). Have you got a second pair of hands to lift the worktop into place. If you're doing wall units, how solid is your wall - this was the trickiest bit for me, on account of the crumbly ancient plaster. Make sure you have the right fixings.

Dh can be enlisted to help put the worktop on.

Any flat pack kitchen units are easy-ish to assemble. Make sure you have a fully charged drill/screwdriver, it will make your job a lot easier.
Take a look around the usual haunts for units, B&Q, Homebase, Ikea. Look at the quality, style and price and pick which one suits you best.
