Petts Wood

Hello all,

Looking at places to move from Beckenham to, which are a bit greener and further out of London. Petts Wood looks like an option. Does anyone live there? Any opinions? Is it family friendly? Green space? Schools?

I love Petts Wood. Lots to do for families, good commuting options (even this week with a derailed train at Lewisham causing havoc). Great outdoor spaces but still close to all London offers. Tennis for free operates from the Willet Rec, good parks with playgrounds and fields dotted about. Great primary schools. Great options for the grammars (Newstead, St Olaves, Kent and Bexley grammars) maybe not brilliant for non selective schools but not dire. Great community spirit - the May Fayre, PettsWoodStock August festival and the Christmas lights are just a few of the great local events put on annually. Great local restaurants and good selection of shops. We lost our Clarks recently but still have an Independent shoe shop. Make sure you take a look on both sides of the railway - each have their own flavour. I wouldn't live anywhere else.

Thanks so much, and thanks for your other message as well - that’s really useful!  It does look like a nice place. We’re torn between wanting to move slightly further out in the countryside (Chelsfield and beyond) and the lure of better transport and a little high street! Most of the houses we’ve seen are around Crescent Drive area, which looks nice?

Crescent drive is lovely, very convenient for the station. It can get crowded with cars. The houses without shared drives are usually a bit more expensive than those with a shared drive. Many have been extended over the years so they are not always comparable with each other. You are well in catchment for Crofton there and if a Catholic then you are convenient for St James' too.

Fast forward a few months and we are looking at purchasing a house on Lovelace Avenue. Any thoughts on that area?
