Where to buy a house in a rural area outside London?

Where can I buy a house for K280 in a properly rural area outside London. The idea would be to have an electric car to go to the train station.

East Kent has some lovely valleys that are worth a look or there's the South Downs??

I think you'll struggle for your budget. How rural is rural? In a village? A hamlet? A farm in the middle of nowhere?

You'll get more for your money if you go North to the midlands. You can get fast trains from Coventry, Ruby, possibly Market Harborough (I forget) but being the wrong side of London will add extra time to your commute.

Also have a look at villages around South Cambridgeshire.

Trains from Huntingdon take about 55 mins in to Kings Cross.

That last one is also not that far from Milton Keynes for fast train into Euston.

if you are planning to tread more lightly, ultra-rural with no services and an electric car is not it. You need to be able to walk, cycle or bus to the station.

further north? There are some very fast services into London (which is why HS2 is so insane). They don't go from rural areas, but then nor will HS2.

Aah right well if it's only once a week commute that make a huge difference.

Both south and fairly near to stations on a main line.

Hmm I live in south cambs, you would struggle to get more than a two bed terrace for that. Try stansted Mon err something....

You would closer to Bedford side of South Cambs round Huntingdon and St. Neots. Definitely not Cambridge though.
