Hello,

Our external oil boiler recently gave up the ghost. It was Grant and the water jacket split. Switched to a Danish Biomass Boiler instead. Sits inside, and very solidly built. Like a Hummer.
Store my pellets in the garage. 96 bags for £230 delivered. Cleaner cheaper than oil.

Hi Frostnixon
A few people I've chatted with via here and Houzz have mentioned pellets ... I think my old boiler will limp along for a few more months now - but I will take a look at all the options ! Thanks for posting ! It's deffo worth thinking about !

do watch it with wood pellets - if somebody realises the ecological problems that they are causing, the subsidy may vanish. Then you have a problem.

I'm sitting by a woodburner - we coppice our own which is the only way to be really sustainable. I am fully aware how fortunate we are to be in this position, and yes it is backed up with oil central heating.

what I'm saying is, don't go for biomass to be 'green'.

Why arent FSC graded pellets (locally sourced if poss) greener than oil?

Subsidies! If locally sourced it could be fine, but I doubt it would be economic. So a lot get imported from america where they are merrily destroying forests . friends of the earth, rspb and similar organisations will tell you more.

Same as my other pet hate, UK onshore wind. An eco disaster that only happens because of wrongly directed subsidies. Bugger all use in our climate, yet down come the trees to build them.

And smart meters - the whole UK housing stock could be properly insulated for what these will cost.
