Heeeeeellllpppppp!!! Red wine on white wall - how to remove??

My very clumsy DH appears to have knocked a glass of wine over and it went over our cream wall in our rental property! Obviously, when he did it last night he didn't think to tell me and clearly did a half-arsed wipe so now it's a lovely dried purple colour (how he thought I wouldn't see it is beyond me). It was an accident, but it's an accident I don't need right now. Any ideas how to remove? Sugar soap will take off the paint as well, won't it?

I've failed miserably to remove red wine stain from painted wall. But a cheap tin of paint will cover it nicely! Where possible, paint the whole section of wall. If colour joins are at corners, you can get away with them.

try a weak bleachy cloth. I often have to deal with red wine stains and am rarely defeated. You could also try a solution of washing powder in water on a cloth, rubbed on carefully.

If that fails do what the pp said and paint it.

Flash magic eraser sponges remove ANYTHING but test first and be gentle as it might take some paint off too.

Sugar soap won't take the paint off! Try a sugar soap solution first. Failing that a Flash eraser.

I had this happen the evening before a viewing on my old house. I just wiped it with neat bleach and it came off a dream.

I get red wine stains out of fabric by wetting with cold water & rubbing with a bar of hand soap - the stain turns blue-black & then disappears in a normal machine wash.

Might not work on paint but worth a try

Honestly, from experience, painting over is the only answer, anything else will leave a greyish shadow. Give DH a brush and pot if paint and he's good to go!

Thank you!! I will give some of these a go...! I know this sounds pathetic but if I left him to this, it would end up worse - diy is not his forte and I really don't want to lose our deposit. I'm hoping there may be some paint in the garage left over from when the place was last painted (about 1970 from the look of it) ;)

Bleach - I had this in my new flat after a party, on white walls. Neat bleach on kitchen roll got rid of it, no damage to the paint.

One of those wall/Mark erasers - sorry not sure what they are called but they sell them in the pound shop! We had awful scrape marks on Matt White from a crap attempt to install a trendy wall mounted headboard and they were removed perfectly. Just go easy, don't scrub!
