White or grey paint for hallway??

Hi all,

I am currently in the process of decorating and would really appreciate your opinions for an indecisive mind like mine. 😩

So, what do you think? White or grey paint for the hallway? and if you wouldn't mind suggesting shades/colours within these tones.

My hallway will have oak flooring and the stairs will have grey carpet, (at the moment I'm think more on the lighter side of grey carpet). Oh also just to note whatever colour paint I choose will follow through to the lounge area.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

We have Dulux polished pebble in our hallway, and one wall in primrose. White woodwork. Looks lovely

Grey sounds grim and white like a public lavatory - perhaps rethink and go for something a bit more subtle or welcoming?

We have timeless in a south facing room with a light grey carpet and white woodwork - it's very calm/restful and not at all cold or yellowy

Also have it in the very long dark narrow hall and its brightened it up so much compared to the Calico that was on previously

I do love grey but getting one that didn't look lilac/blue was a nightmare for the landing so decided accessories in grey was the way forward for other rooms!

Funny enough I wasn't keen on the dado rail, found it here when I moved and was going to get rid...but it may have its uses....

Elephants breath? Lovely grey colour.

Our hallways going to be brassica. Purple looks really nice in our house. Pbw looks awful.

LOL. Grey and white are like, the two most popular wall colours ;-)

Yeah I wasn't sure - I got rid of the one in the bedroom but have decided to keep the hall and stairs one. Not entirely convinced it is sympathetic with the ex council 1060s build but hey ho!

I just painted my hallway in Timeless and it's perfect. I was worried it would be too white but it's not at all, it's a definite off white/grey.

It connects the colours in adjoining rooms well too (Cornish Clay in the Dining Room and Egyptian Cotton in the Lounge).

LOL Thanks for your advice. Only i've seen my neighbours hallway its cornforth white, (its grey) and her carpet is grey, together with her accessories its absolute beautiful, can't imagine a toilet like it lol... but I do understand its of course down to personal taste.

My last property had calico in the hallway and it did indeed seem very dark particularly with very restricted natural light following through. Thanks for the review on timeless paint. I'm also opting for light grey carpet so it looks like its going to either be timeless or just walnut for sure... Many thanks for sharing your interior design ideas.

I've used Cornforth White in our West facing bathroom and I'm delighted with the result - not too light, not too dark, doesn't look 'lilacy'. I used 'modern emulsion' as was recommended for bathrooms, rather than 'matt' - which we have used on all other walls. I also have Johnsons Satin White for all woodwork and that, combined with dark wood flooring contrasts beautifully.
I am now tempted to use the same Cornforth White modern emulsion in our East facing hallway as it's wipeable.

Thanks lashy

I agree, Cornforth White is lovely.....

Sounds great what you've done to your home!
