PigletJ around? Q about toilet S bend which goes directly into the floor?

Our ground-floor loo has the waste S bend going straight down into the floor. We need to replace the loo - would it be really complicated and expensive to replace with standard S bend loo that goes out the wall (it is next to the outside wall)? As I would like a wall hung for better cleaning and better use of space?

I will guess that the room has a concrete floor.

It is wearisome to dig these up and reroute the soil pipe.

If the room is big enough, you can use an elbow or swanneck connector and move the pan out from the wall.

There are a few modern WCs still made with S-traps. Most are low-level, but close-coupled suites are also available and look neater and more modern.

From my old notes, try Twyford Alcona bottom outlet; Twyford E100, Twyfords Refresh. You may need to consult the maker or a retailer who has an up-to-date catalogue with the dimensioned drawings. The soil pipe might, for example, be 250mm from the wall, so you can't fit one that is longer.

If you get the chance of an old-model cistern, take it, because it will probably be bigger than modern ones. Try to avoid cisterns with a button in the lid.

some difficulty finding the dimensioned drawings. Does this work?

javascript:_doPostBack('novocontent0$DownloadRepeater$ctl02$DocumentRepeater$ctl00$hpr1','')

or use the files for download link on

Thanks PJ.....really helpful - yes we have a concrete floor - so looks like it would be too disruptive to dig out just to have a wall hung....will investigate those links....
