Garage conversion

I've searched all the previous threads but wondered if people had any new tips/regrets over a single garage conversion. Also we have had a quote for £6,600, does the seem reasonable?

It's an integral garage, we are not moving the access door (off from utility), is having one window added and garage door left on. We have off street parking for three cars and a huge metal shed in the garden for storage. Thanks

Hi, we are also thinking of doing a garage conversion. We had some drawings done, once our builder friend started pricing up the materials required, it quickly got to over 8k just for materials (not all) and no labor.

Your quote sounds very good, can i ask where in the country you are?

Mine was quoted at £3,700+VAT for the work, around £500 for the window I wanted and the same again for building regulations approval (just a building notice).

It's not quite finished yet and we've had about £500 in extra costs from the usual 'unforeseen' problems the builder found. I'm in outer London and got a fantastic deal on the window since I was replacing some others at the same time. We didn't have a huge amount to do though. The up and over door was removed and replaced by a wall and window, then a few other things were tidied up and the floor insulated, but the garage was built decently and didn't need much updating to meet the regulations as a room. It was useless to me as a garage so no regrets at all so far!

We are on Oxfordshire/Wiltshire border. Quote includes VAT and building regs fee and providing the window/radiator and new glazed inside door. The garage is retry basic - although had electric- so most of job seems to be insulation. It's a 1960's garage and too narrow for a car so seems a waste of space.

I'm going to have to get another quote then, I don't know if they guy who did our drawings overdid it a bit on the spec for the insulation and timber, but I was quite shocked at the price. i was expecting 6-7k, it looked more like 12k.

I'm waiting on the other three quotes - so getting four quotes in total. We haven't had drawings etc done.all seems straightforward I think - one window to add, build a wall, insulate etc

Op that quote sounds reasonable to me. I live in a similar area, could you share the name of the builder who quoted yet? We are looking to modify our garage but not a full conversion.
