Originally wanted to buy in the village where our daughter goes to school but the house we wanted fell through. Then fell in love with another house, but in a village 6 minutes drive away, but there's a bus for when she goes to big school.

This is house 1 www.zoopla.co.uk/for-sale/details/41402395#Cjb5zIViYopjp0zG.97

But just seen this come up, walkable distance to her school.

House 2 www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-56983375.html

This is supposed to be a long term move for us. We wanted size and feeling like we were moving upwards from our small semi ex council house.

ARGH. Thoughts?

House 1 is heaps better and has so much more potential.

Kidnapped · 16/11/2016 17:58

House 1 is much nicer.

flownthecoopkiwi · 16/11/2016 17:58

House 1 needs work... new flooring and there's a good reason there's no pictures of the kitchen! But house2 is in the village we originally wanted but something the size of house1 would be 100K more

I like number 2 (probably not helpful)

Emberfirefly · 16/11/2016 18:03

Number 1 is much nicer if you can easily afford the extra £100k.

flownthecoopkiwi · 16/11/2016 18:11

Not sure about the easily... but we can afford it. Just.

Send link of house 2 to husband. One word reply: yuck.

Why do we second guess ourselves??

You can easily put an inexpensive kitchen in (Ikea or similar).

No offence to anyone but the street scene around House 2 looked kinda scruffy, certainly in comparison to House 1.

Dumbled · 16/11/2016 23:58

No.2 has a lovely kitchen and lots of light! Its a bit bare inside -and out but could be easily changed- don't understand the reactions to it?

SellyMevs · 17/11/2016 00:09

I used to live in Magna Close, I loved Abington but if I were up sizing for a family home, I wouldn't pick House 2. The original houses are quite small, and most have been gradually extended. They do have large gardens but you won't get the privacy that you get with the detached in Balsham. Plus there's more opportunity to make it your own! Oh I miss South Cambridgeshire, but not the house prices!

Finola1step · 17/11/2016 00:49

Just looked at the photos again and looked more closely at the gardens. Is that a walled garden in House 1? That alone would beat house 2 for me. And potential buyers in the long run when you are ready to sell on...

PitilessYank · 17/11/2016 01:29

House 1-pull up the rugs and put down hardwood and you are golden!

House 2-meh.

I have tons of fun in the car with my kids. Why not make up a game for the brief car trip and play it every day? Your DC will always remember those wonderful trips to and from school with mom.

PitilessYank · 17/11/2016 01:30

My son and I pretend we have a radio show when we are in the car-we interview each other, talk about current events, etc.

miggles33 · 17/11/2016 06:21

House 1 definitely. The garden is lovely. I would love a walled garden like that

IEatCannibals · 17/11/2016 06:29

House 1 is much nicer.

Yes driving to primary school may be a pita but it's over soon enough.

OnlyHereForTheCamping · 17/11/2016 06:32

Abington is not a village! Stick with house 1

No, we are going ahead with house 1 :)

Definitely house 1 - a much better buy for a long term move.

Finola1step · 20/11/2016 00:34

Good choice.
