Where to buy a house in the countryside near London?

The greenest area possible and the closest to London. Foreigners friendly (we are from Belgium and Sweden). Do it exists? Where to look?

Where in London do you need to be. You are going to get very different suggestions if you need to be in the City than if you need to be in the West End.

Leafy surroundings in close proximity to London are highly sought after. You're not going to get a rural idyll with an easy commute to London for that budget. Transport costs need to be factored in as well if you are commuting into London - season tickets will set you back £1000s.

We need more specific criteria:

-how little space can you manage with?
-do you just want easy access to green surroundings (would say a flat in a town where you could easily walk/cycle into the countryside work for you, or do you actually want a rural location?)
-will you be commuting to London daily (if so whereabouts in London?) or do you just want/need to visit occasionally?

Come to North Essex! Witham has frequent and quick trains to London and while itself is not a great town (although it has some nice spots and loads of parkland and river walks) there are some lovely villages nearby with plenty of green space. You could get a modern 3 bed house for 260k in a village.

Make sure you research the cost of train tickets and parking at the station idf you need it. I pay over £3.5k p.a. for a train only ticket - no parking, no TFL. Makes a big difference to your sums
