Awkward bathroom - can you have taps in the middle AND an over bath shower?

our small bathroom has two windows and a door and cannot fit a separate shower cubicle. currently has no shower. i need a shower.

the only solution to not having a shower in front of a window would be to have a bath with taps in the middle, with a shower over the bath also in the middle. i cannot find any pictures of this set up so am starting to doubt its wisdom.

i can't find a shower, as in the controls and head etc with integrated taps for the bath, so i guess i'd need to buy seperate ones, and these would need to match.

also can any bath be used with a shower over or do you need it to be reinforced or anything?

it's all very complicated . i have more questions but might see if ayone is interested enough before droning on Grin

A friend got this apparently it was Philippe Starck and has some incredible doors that are glass.

What did you get in the end @PuraVida ?

PuraVida · 25/01/2024 17:20

What a blast from the past!

we have a nice big wide bath (800mm) with the shower head in the middle, big one over and a hand held one lower on the wall, and an overflow filler. the panel with the levers on to control them is set off to the side.

We have a shower curtain, i make beautiful ones from any nice fabric i see and use a separate waterproof inner (this is how anthropologie £££s are, just light fabric in a nice design with button holes along the top for the curtain rings)

because the bath is wide you never get clingy damp shower curtain issues. the inner gets chucked in the washing machine so no de limescaling for a screen

the windows have waterproof shutters though tbh as the shower head is in the middle the one over the end of the bath doesn't get splashed too much

it worked amazingly well and i'm still happy all this time later. i should be a bathroom designer

it is laid out as per my original plan in the first post

i did start reading it and thought "wow that's just like the problems i had with our bathroom" 😆

Glad you went with your original plan, first gut instinct usually right.
Also good to hear you're still happy with it after all this time.
Love the Anthropology shower curtains, but as you mentioned, so expensive!

Having to reluctanlty put our shower in the middle as otherwise would have to sit in the bath with head 12cm away from the loo and facing a wall.

Hopeful now after reading your update :).
Thanks.

We do. We moved the taps to make them easier to access for running baths for the kids. The shower head and fittings are all the original end as is the plug.

edit: just realised I misunderstood. Our shower is wall mounted at one end which you don’t want. But I don’t see why it couldn’t be in the middle, if you mean handheld. If it were fixed to the wall in the middle, I would have thought the angle for the spray/head would be very awkward given the narrow width of the bath.

Hi @PuraVida

I wasn't going to ask anything as I realised your post was from so long ago, but I noticed you wrote your last answer last year so maybe you will see this too! I came to have a look if I could find the answer on mumsnet (as I normally do!!) and your thread did not disappoint. The current layout of the house we are hoping to buy is as in photo, so we thought we could just add a sliding hook to hang the shower above, just above the tap, in the centre of the bath but worry about spraying all over the bathroom without a shower curtain and shower curtains sticking to you while you are showering... screens positioned centrally might be the answer but scares me a bit and I think they might potentially be awkward..we like the simple/modern look.. so hanging copper tubes or anything too fancy doesn't particularly appeal, and the digital one from the ceiling might be above our budget... so would you say you are happy with your solution from a functional POV? Is the curtain positioned right above the edge of the bathroom or further out into the room (to have a bit more room to move your arms around as you lather up) and just have the curtain go in the bath below knee level iyswim? TIA for reading all this!
