How much is a drink?

We had an issue in our drains, a plumber (who we are a good customer of) came to look but basically said straight away it needed a specialist. When I asked him how much I should pay him he said "oh, just give us a drink". I have never known how much this means...Blush Any suggestions?

I'd probably hand him £20 but would secretly think that's a very expensive drink for a job that still needs to be rectified Blush

we gave fifty, but there where three of them. I would say £20 is a nice amount.

DH is a tradesman. I read him your post; he said £10 or £20.

Oh brilliant, thank you all - very helpful! I will give him £20, he's a lovely bloke and although he couldn't help it was quite useful to know I should stop poking away fruitlessly with my plunger!!! (Ugh)

I would have apologised that I was out of tea and offered a glass of water. I am thinking back and hoping this has never happened!
