Dishwasher recommendations please

Our dishwasher has just broken so we need to get a new one ASAP. We will be getting the kitchen redone in the next 3-6 months so I think we want an integrated one that we can use without the panel for the moment. Any recommendations please? We will be here for a good while so happy to spend more for something that does a good job and will last.

Our Miele (non integrated) is 5 years old and as good as new. The cutlery rack is ace IMO, frees up so much space. Yes it was pricey £700(?) but so worth it.

Our Miele Hoover is about 15 years old and still going strong!

if not a member, you can get trial membership for I think a nominal fee, or read all the reports at the library. Try www.which.co.uk/

Their three top full-size freestanders are:

Miele G6820SC £1199 scored 88%
Bosch SMS88TW02G £669 scored 83%
Siemens SN26M232GB £450 scored 82%

I have the Fisher paykel one too. Both sisters have them: rich posh sister first got hers about 6 or 7 years ago and initially it was a nightmare, broke down all the time, but they have transformed reliability and now have a 5 year guarantee or something. I love mine to bits: just dh and me at home now so tend just to need one drawer but second drawer is there when we need it. And it makes the cutest little chirrup when you open it.

As with all new dishwashers take some dinner plates with you when you go to look at it to check your crockery will fit easily.

Thank you Piglet

Our miele is 14 years old and good as new. It survived moving house with us and I'll be really sad when it dies!

WeAllHaveWings · 11/09/2016 23:11

Our integrated smeg broke 2 weeks ago after 5 years, we've replaced with the Siemens and I like it so far.

It's got the cutlery tray at the top and it holds everything on their side so no risk of water filled spoons. I like the top basket being eaisily adjustable height so I can fit my large plates and oven trays in the bottom rack.

It is integrated and we replaced ourselves within 2 hours and we are terrible at DIY, it was the same as our smeg and only two small screws into the worktop and couple of hooks and screws on the door front. If we want to pull out we just remove the workshop screws and pull out, did it several times with our smeg.

I've had 2 AEG's - first broke down after 3 years, second after 5 years
1 Bosch - broke down after 5 years 3 months ... guess how long the guarantee was ?
Miele - still going strong after 8 years
Says it all as far as I am concerned

Hmm I an being swayed towards the fisher peykel one but OH thinks £1k on a dishwasher is pushing it. The Miele have a huge range of prices. Are the more expensive ones that much better? I wanted to order something tonight but can't make a decision. Might go and have a look at some tomorrow, not that looking tells you much!

there is a tendency for the more expensive models to be more complicated or, to put it another way, to have more that can go wrong, and more expensive repairs.

The build quality of any one brand will not vary much, if they are using the same designers and the same working practices throughout the factory.

villainousbroodmare · 12/09/2016 16:50

I don’t have the cutlery rack one; it's at work and so probably not being loaded with great care or precision Grin but everyone dislikes the fact that you can't just pop a spoon swiftly in and that tray also reduces the space available for tall glasses and wine glasses.

Fleck · 12/09/2016 20:16

Thanks. Going to sit dons with oh and make a decision tonight. You don't realise how much washing up you generate til the dishwasher breaks!

I have owned F&P before and don't rate them. They push themselves as a high end brand but I don't think they are a patch on the likes of Miele, Siemens, Bosch. I don't think you can beat German engineering and quality. F&P are owned by Haier.

Pradaqueen · 14/09/2016 04:30

Also second smeg integrated being crap in terms of their ability to wash dishes clean first time. Oh and I'm yet to find dinner plates that only Barbie doesn't use that can fit in the bloody thing and allow the water jets to spray round uninhibited. I have 4 kids. It is a nightmare Abc b

Next time I am taking my actual plates to the showroom to check they fit first rather than because it matches my other appliances.... On the other point, the cutlery drawer is more efficient than a basket but could be the reason why there is less 'headroom' in the plate standing section. 4 years later, it still winds me up.

bojorojo · 14/09/2016 16:26

My Meile was pricey!!! Well over £1000. It opens the door after if finishes and has a light! It is also super super quiet. About the quietest on the market. That was my main reason for buying it, and its top rated status by nearly everyone and its energy status (very energy efficient and uses less water) and choice of programs! It is so quiet you would hardly know it is on which suits me! It also has a top cutlery drawer. It washes supremely well and no, it does not fall forward!!! I would not have anything else and I expect it to last a long time.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/09/2016 16:28

My Miele was about 600, also super quiet.

PigletJohn · 14/09/2016 16:37

I wouldn't expect it to fall forward if correctly screwed to the adjacent cabinets and possibly the worktop. It's being screwed into place that makes integrated dwrs more work to fit and pull out, though.

MothershipG · 14/09/2016 16:44

I've recently replaced a Bosch with another Bosch as the original had given Stirling service.

The new one has the cutlery tray, which I like and it also opens its door when it finishes (and was a fraction of the price of the Miele).

goshthatseemsalot · 15/09/2016 08:40

The man in the Miele shop told me not to buy the top of the range one. He said the £600 one did the job just as well and you were just paying for useless features. I appreciated his honesty.

Herschellmum · 15/09/2016 08:52

I have a Samsung water wall one, had it over a year, dishes still come out perfect. I wasn't sure I would like the Cutlery layer but I do. It was about £659 but that was over a year ago. I love it!

Herschellmum · 15/09/2016 08:54

The Samsung one also opens it door after it finishes (do they dry out perfect) and has lights inside and one outside which I'm found of too.

Sorry, no idea what happened there. Kept saying failed! lol.

Fleck · 24/09/2016 16:17

Sorry only just caught up with this. We went with a miele for about £500 (reduced from 580 I think). Very pleased with it so far! Didn't go for a cutlery tray as family opinion was they were a faff. It doesnt have many fancy features but it makes things clean and dry so we're happy :) Thanks for all the advice.
