So I LOVE the look of a butler sink and wooden work surfaces but I know it's REALLY impractical, any alternative?

We are having the kitchen redone and we are planning to go with the Burford Shaker option from Howdens. I just love this butler sink and wood work surface photo, it's gorgeous, but I know wood work surfaces are a horror, particularly around butlers sinks. Is there a different option, bamboo maybe? Or even a high end laminate? Otherwise I'm thinking could I use a different material just around the sink 🤔 Problem would be that that material would then have to be joined and there would still be scope for liquid to seep in.

Just moved into a house that has a belfast sink and wood worktops....nightmare! The previous owners were not very clean (understatement of the century)....needless to say the worktop beside the sink is blackened with water saturation...desperately need the worktops sanded down and oiled but nobody seems willing to take on the job! has anyone sanded them down by hand or would you really need an electric sander? If i had a choice, i would have chosen a granite worktop...the worst bit is the water running from the dish drainer directly onto wooden worktops!
