ANY INFO WELCOME including nearby areas to look at.

Does anybody know what it's like? Recommend good schools, places to eat? Where to walk the dogs?

We have a 20 month old so looking for nursery upwards. DH works in Osterley so it's a great location for us, currently commuting from Berkshire and it's not fun (2hrs tonight thanks to M4 traffic). I grew up in Richmond and lived in Teddington in my early 20s but don't know areas further out very well.

Lovely houses. I think they might be a bit far out for us though. I know 2 mins extra isn't much but if DH was working late it would be a mare and 40 mins is what we are now so really want less. Maybe food for thought though.

Also being that price we would need to have a bath for DD (how long do they have baths for rather than showers? She has been in them on hol with me holding her but hates it Confused ).

Osterley and isleworth are too pricy unless it's a house with a small garden and prob not the 3rd room with a double bed in.

That is a very long link, sorry

BitchPeas · 24/08/2016 22:56

Definitely Shepperton or lower sunbury, good schools and open spaces. Would never live in Staines, Ashford or sunbury cross/Feltham side of sunbury.

Easy drive to Osterley from Shepperton or lower Sunbury. I used to drive about 6/6:30am only took me about 20 minutes.

Theorchard · 24/08/2016 23:00

Regarding the shower... Get a Belfast sink?! Bathe dd in that?

MiddleClassProblem · 24/08/2016 23:03

New haw on the list with Byfleet to recce. DH will find the name amusing.

We can afford Hanworth, Ashford, Sunbury, bits of Staines and definitely feltham Sad which I hoped had got better since I lived in Richmond but apparently it's still a bit dodge. I do think these areas are up and coming though as so many renters want to buy but are priced out. If DH worked in central London it would be so much easier as we could look East too but nae.

We are lucky to have the budget we do. Even more lucky if we win the lottery...

Have you ever had any flooding issues bitchpeas? That is always my worry with shepperton, although it is lovely!

MiddleClassProblem · 24/08/2016 23:06

That Shep one is lush and near the station! Will def look there. I remember going to a nice pub on the river there.

Lots of people will always say that Feltham is dodgy, but it is much much better than it was, and I've heard that the new school Reach is very good. There's a good Lidl and Aldi!

BitchPeas · 24/08/2016 23:32

In the last 30 odd years no and the only people who I've known have flooding are those that live right on the actual river bank. Some home insurers won't touch you though, don't really get why, as my home insurance is not more expensive, just some companies say it's too risky.

MiddleClassProblem · 24/08/2016 23:36

Aldi nappies are essential! Maybe I should just have a wander around feltham to see what it's like. Worst case it's awful and I'm just where I would be having written it off anyway.

We liked Ashford because we had just been disappointed by West Molesey and it had more buzz, better kept, shops and restaurants and no plane noise (not that that's a big factor) and was so close to DH's work. It could be that going back again we don't feel the same.

Hi OP, hello from Ashford!
We've lived here for 4 years now (West London before that) & it has grown on us. It's not the most exciting place to live & the high street could do with a make over, but it's a rather quiet & stress free place to live. We live a stones throw from the station & it's just 35 mins to Waterloo, we can get to London by road A4 really quick, the M25 is on our doorstep & Hatton Cross (Piccadilly) is 1.5 miles away. Osterley would be a 20-25 min drive, so quite easy. The best bit for me is low traffic & hence low stress. We walk a lot more since living here & love the village atmosphere. Couple of friends have moved to Ashford & bought lovely houses here after seeing ours. There are some nice areas and some rough ones, so you do need to choose carefully. Most of the professional crowd are people who have moved out of London. Many commute to the great west offices from here either by train or road. South west train is 18 minutes to Syon Lane.

You'd get a nice 3 bed semi for around £450 if that suits? Areas closest to station are your best bet. If you need specific info then feel free to PM me.

Will pm you tomorrow when my brain has recharged but that's great news. Moving from where I am back to London I'm sure it would seem more positive than moving out from west London iyswim. My area has similar shops, 1 restaurant and no pubs that people don't look at me funny because I'm a bit brown...

Thank you all for tonight. If you have anymore thoughts please do share. I got a bit lost for a bit but I think you've all set me back on track x
