We are trying to compile a list before we start looking properly!! We have two dc, two dogs and will be rural. We definitely need a large garage (we have four cars so far) or space to build one, and we want a big garden, anything else that you would really like??

We moved into what will be our very-long-time home last year (doubt forever, but for children growing up at least).
Must haves : 5 bedrooms, lots of land, detached, period features, log burner, lots of rooms (dislike open plan), good trees for climbing
Nice to haves : big garage, outbuildings, storage space.

And actually I've found the things I've treasured the most are the views, the wildlife and lovely neighbours. There's not a day goes by without me feeling amazingly lucky to live here.

Quiet location - away from road noise, barking dogs, go - kart centre ( ran away from that one...)
If more than one car, parking parallel not serial
Sunny aspect
Privacy without isolation
Downstairs toilet!

No design stupidities - windows too low, free standing baths, butler sinks, wooden worktops, fancy squiggles on sinks, etc. That said, most of those can be changed.

littlemissneela · 22/08/2016 10:14

My dream home would have....
wood burner in the living room
separate dining room
large kitchen which leads onto or looks out onto the back garden and big enough to put a table in
walk in pantry
utility room which could also house a walk in shower
a reception room which can be turned into a downstairs bedroom for disabled dd, pref next to the utility room
4 double bedrooms
ensuite bathrooms to at least two bedrooms
deep windowsills or deep enough to put plants on them
bannisters
south westerly facing garden
garage with room over the top for either office and or storage

Not alot really ;)

junebirthdaygirl · 22/08/2016 10:25

Lots of light or the possibility of introducing lots of light.
Big separate utility room.
A comfortable area in the kitchen to sit while doing dinner etc.

wowfudge · 22/08/2016 10:31

I have three main requirements - separate utility room, downstairs loo and plenty of storage space.

namechangedtoday15 · 22/08/2016 10:42

must haves
Location - in catchment area for best schools
Enough bedrooms for everyone to have a separate room (4 beds for us) or potential to create
Large kitchen diner with access onto garden (or potential to create)
Utility room (my personal deal breaker)
Downstairs toilet
Decent sized garden
Off street parking

Nice to haves
Ensuite to master
Period features
Big entrance hall

LabRats · 22/08/2016 14:20

We've just moved into what I very much hope will be our forever home.

We wanted, and have got:

Playroom
Separate utility room
Walk in wardrobe
3 bathrooms with en suite to master
Huge garden
Driveway
Wood burning stove

EssentialHummus · 22/08/2016 14:30

Frankly I would live in a two-man tent if it was in catchment for the school I'm after.

Nice to haves:

Three large double bedrooms
Good size back garden
Spacious layout - I'm forrin and find most English houses small /badly-proportioned
Close to a high street with a Tube/Overground station and a decent selection of coffee shops and restaurants

EssentialHummus · 22/08/2016 14:30

Actually an extra loo wouldn't go amiss either.

TeacupDrama · 22/08/2016 14:47

must haves

  1. proximity catchment for at least a "good" secondary school
  2. large at least double garage for DH workshop as self employed
  3. not too close to neighbours re above can be some noise
4, kitchen big enough to eat in
  1. at least 2 receptions rooms
  2. 3 double bedrooms plus office or 4 bedrooms of which 2 must be good sized doubles
  3. within no more than 20 minutes drive of amenities and no more than 40 mins from a big town/city
  4. no poky rooms or white characterless box

would like

  1. south facing garden that is flat for the most part ideally 1/2 acre
  2. a workshop and garage space
3 a separate utility /boot room and downstairs shower room not just WC
  1. a 3rd reception room or conseravatory
  2. nice period features some character
Boolovessulley · 22/08/2016 14:59

I'd love to look out to sea.
Failing that a decent garden.

Dream list?

Zone 1 london.

5 beds.
2 en suite and a family bathroom. Downstairs toilet.
Utility room.
Garage.
Nice big S facing garden.
Big kitchen diner.
2 separate reception rooms or one big one.

I suspect I can achieve all of those... Except the lomdon thing ;-)

YelloDraw · 22/08/2016 21:09

Oh a patio that gets the evening sun right till sun down would be amazing too.

YelloDraw · 22/08/2016 21:09

Oh and on a quiet road...

My list keep adding up!

Linnet · 22/08/2016 21:42

4/5 bedrooms
a utility room
a study
a driveway
a downstairs loo
a big kitchen with an island and wine fridge
a dining room
a family room
a fairly decent sized easy to take care of garden with a patio
Lots of storage either cupboards, or an attic

Bloodybridget · 23/08/2016 08:59

A loo on every floor. Actually no more than two storeys so not too many stairs in our old age. Easy maintenance, sunny garden. Plenty of natural light. Decent sized rooms. I'd love a utility room but it wouldn't be a deal breaker. No basement rooms, have had enough of damp thanks very much.

Bloodybridget · 23/08/2016 09:01

Oh yes and a side entrance so bins and garden stuff don't have to come through the house would be great!

We moved into our possibly forever home which didn't have a utility ( on my list ) . We have made one in the back of the garage but there is still enough room for a car.

(From holiday house) would LOVE to have a heated swimming pool (complete with shower and jacuzzi)!
Beach at bottom of garden (another holiday house) would be ace to have too.
Another would like is a study somewhere - with space to house a spare guest when we have more than one lot of people staying. (Have told dh he'll have to wait until the kids move out. But the thought of that makes him sad.)

kernowgal · 23/08/2016 18:59

There's not much I'd change about my place, other than it being detached rather than semi-detached.

I would also like to have off-street parking but that's something I can definitely add once I've saved up the cash.

Finally I'd like to move it to an area with a bit more going on - I am tucked away in a lovely village but it is too quiet. Would go for a more vibrant location next time.

BeautifulMaudOHara · 23/08/2016 19:32

Detached, no near neighbours
At least 6 large bedrooms
4 or more bathrooms plus en suite
Downstairs loo / boot room
Huge kitchen
Dining room
Drive with space for 5 or more cars
Period features
Large windows, lots of light
High ceilings
Open fires
A decent lawn
A wine cellar

We have all of the above, I'd love a sea view though, which we don't have (we're in London)
