21 k for a new garden??

I didn't know where to put this here or gardening...?

Just got a quote for a new garden.. And I'm not sure if I'm just out of touch with what's normal.
I've been abroad for some time.

The quote includes, paving, pergola, new shed and raised planters. It also has a new path, bin store and some fancy Venetian fencing.
It's a new build relatively small but not tiny garden. We already have lots of established plants so none needed.

Is this outrageous? Please can you tell me what you paid or even better if you're a landscaper.

I'm in the south east.

All advice gratefully accepted Blush

I paid about £8k for patio, fencing, large areas of flower beds cleared and an area made for my DC to play.

Honestly OP, it's hideous, I'm going to have a rant so read and then ignoreWink...it IS a crime against humanity. Apart from the fact it's awful for wildlife it looks dreadful, even the most expensive stuff. It looks 'Toy Town' and has no place in your beautiful new garden.

Rant overGrin

Ok- after much talking and some more talking, bloody hell, we're doing it 😮😮

I've spoken to the gardener and he's pencilled us in for the 10th October.

Dh is still reeling and looking a little confusedGrin

Your feedback is invaluable and I was so pleased that you were so positive about the firm. I felt excited by them iyswim and I wondered if I imagined it!

I will post before and after pictures and keep you updated.

We have artificial grass. Cost £3.5k and worth every penny to us.

I now have children with no grass stained knees and who come in clean from rolling around on the "grass"

It dries really fast so can be played on very soon after it has rained. It doesn't require much maintenance, a brush to clean off leaves/berries, a water with weed killer every 4 months. And it never needs cutting or weeding. Bliss.

Plus Dh can now actually enjoy the back garden without his eyes swelling shut from grass pollen. It has changed our lives.

It is all well and good commenting on how naff people think it is but for us it was a necessity to have Dh actually spend time with us in the garden.

OP your garden plan sounds lovely. We had ours landscaped after we had a kitchen extension built but we sourced everything ourselves and paid people to lay the patio/build red cedar walling etc.

KathrynMBuchanan · 14/08/2016 14:20

£20K is reasonable if you have a big lawn. With that price, I'd expect the job to be extremely good.

Clearly if there are allergies involved you have to work round it and find a solution which you have. It doesn't stop it being naff though Wink

Yes please post pics. I have to so a massive London garden next spring and these prices terrify me! Interested to see if it is worth the money, which I'm sure it is if I can find it somewhere.
