Missing out on a house you really want

Just that really. Starting to feel very despondent as the market in London has slowed to a snail's pace. Even though I've seen a few reductions, nothing decent has come on the market. :(

Am I just destined to stay in rented forever? sob

We're in the opposite situation. We're moving out of London, have found a place, but can't make an offer until we have an offer on ours and so far have only had one time wasting viewer (a nosey neighbour). We're gutted as we assumed it would sell quickly (one of a kind, great views etc) but until we get an offer we can 't in any consciousness make an offer on the one we want. I'm hoping that the market will pick up in September, but I'm also fully ready to drop my asking price.

elfofftheshelf - have you considered lowering your price? From what I'm seeing on Rightmove things are selling as long as they are competitively priced.

ladedah - yes being an adult sucks!

Sorry to hear that Gobbolino.

We're ready to drop the price by £50k as soon as the agent returns from his holidays. Thankfully the properties we are looking at elsewhere are also pretty stagnant so hopefully the one we want won't go before we get a chance to put our offer in. This may all change in September - at least that's what the agent is telling us Confused

We put our house on the market for a house we really wanted, bid £25k over asking yet missed out. Decided to go ahead with moving anyway, found a house that I quite liked.

Now we've moved in I love it more and more each day. Brilliant space that works well with the family and is adaptable as the DC grow up, amazing views, lovely location and (currently!) catchment for a fantastic secondary school.

We got a lot more space, an extra bedroom, a playroom and generally better condition for £40k more than the original house we wanted (we were going to do a loft extension straight away in that- would've cost over £40k and we would've had a smaller downstairs space). We don't have a garage but we built a big shed for storing all the stuff we did have in the garage.

I was devastated when the house I really wanted fell through as the seller changed her mind. My house was already sold and even worse, I had to move back home with my mother while I found a new one (whole other story!). I found 'the one' while aimlessly driving around the area I wanted, looking for sale boards. It's so much better than the first house. I have been happy here now for nearly 20 years so don't lose heart. Things happen for a reason and I sometimes go past the original house and think how pleased I am that it worked out this way.
