Extension/Playroom flooring - exciting lino???

Hi all!

We're in the final throes of an extension. It's on a classic Victorian semi; ie comes out off the back of the kitchen and then will open onto the garden.

Planning to use it as a playroom/spare room (it will have a sofa bed in it). Also it will have a loo and a very small utility room (just space for the washing machine and dryer) at the end.

We have three small children who pound in and out of the garden without very diligent foot wiping so the floor will need to be kind of hard wearing.

Kitchen has natural wood (stained dark brown) but the extension won't have wood flooring. I got all excited about sisal/sea grass but think it would get totally trashed, so we were thinking Lino is the best option. I'm totally uninspired...I don't really want fake wood (will look obviously fake next to kitchen's real wood) or fake stone (the bit of the garden it will lead out to has a patio). Something quite geometric or colourful would be cool. I quite like the Harvey Maria patterned tiles but they're £££ and I'm not sure really worth the money...

Any suggestions??? Help!Confused

If you can find someone who's very good at laying the stuff, get widths of different colours and lay strips side by side - quite broad strips, though, not little teeny ones. Needs to be planned carefully so you get the max out of what you buy (remember to take into account the roll width) and has to be laid really well so it doesn't lift! You could have rainbow, or pastels, or whatever you choose - and if a bit gets damaged then you only need to replace that strip....

We have excellent taste tootsie Grin

Stripes is a good idea poochie!

I think people might be right about too much colour though...maybe it is safer to stick with black and white or cork.

Might have to hit some flooring shops tomorrow am and make a final decision..Shock

We have just had the forbo marmoleum put down in our kitchen/diner and it is fab. Gorgeous colour and really practical. We also have the stripy vinyl in the playhouse and it is lovely but not very hard wearing. Tough decision to make, good luck!

Have you looked at Harvey Maria they have plain & funky designs, I'm lusting after the Neisha Crossland pattern for my bathroom. Certainly worth a look Smile

Try again Harvey Maria hope it works!

So - Saturday morning visited the flooring shop and have come away convinced Harvey Maria is worth the £££. Gulp! He says it should last for life and be completely waterproof etc which, given there'll be a washing machine and a loo in there, is quite important.

Think we will go for that Neisha crossland design - it's really nice, isn't it??

Now what colour walls?!! Confused

Oh how exciting! Yes I'm in love with that design, I'd go with pale walls and the charcoal shade to the floor. Was it very expensive??

Flannelmcpoppety · 07/08/2016 20:13

Final price still tbd...but yeah, with fittings works out £89/sq m...luckily it's a pretty small room!

I was thinking charcoal also and F&B "tallow" for the walls. But I then got a bit waylaid with stone (HM).

Gah, I'm so middle class.

Giddy step away from the rubber flooring. I had it in my last bathroom and while it looked gorgeous and I loved it, it is a total fucker to keep clean. Every hair shows, it discoloured where a hot water pipe ran under it, and the edges of the circles look grimy five minutes after cleaning. Sad

GiddyOnZackHunt · 07/08/2016 20:44

:( Oh no Jilly that all sounds disappointing. I was thinking of it for the bathroom that the dc use and they're mucky little beggars.
Back to Rhinofloor for us then.
Thank you for telling me! :)

That is pricey BUT it will look stunning & you'll look at it everyday & be glad you paid that bit more. Great choice Grin
