Critique my kitchen layout please

I'm about to make what I consider to be the most important decision of my life (seriously, months and months of planning, researching, speaking to designers, going to showrooms, visiting friends and acquaintances with new kitchens) and I need a fresh pair of eyes please.
Note the door on the bottom right of the plan is where you enter the kitchen from the hall. The area to the left is the dining room.
The cupboards on the right in between the doors look a bit weird but they're under a sloping ceiling.
Thanks all

I'm just about the have my kitchen extension built, so am also knee deep in decisions too!

I would put in a 5 ring hob in (presume it's induction) and put the oven under that. (Or get an induction range cooker? That's what I'm having) I'd move your pan drawers into the peninsula so they are next to the cooking space, or utilise the corner of the base unit for pan storage.

In an ideal world I'd move the back door and get your fridge in there but imo, it matters less where the fridge is than the where the hob/oven/cooker is. I'm having to have my fridge on the other side of the kitchen because of the way the space is planned out.

Looks lovely though.

What a tricky problem to deal with, abd sorry I can't assist with your dilemma. I am however interested in what software you used to get your plans? Or if anyone has any other suggestions for kitchen design software? Am about to embark on this type of project myself.

blardyfeck · 20/07/2016 13:34

I'm afraid I don't know what the software is, the drawings have been done by a kitchen designer.

I can't really see what you have on the right of the dishwasher? I'd take the oven out of the tall bank of units and put it there. I think with or without the extra bit of peninsula it will be a faff to have the oven where it currently is, or further to the left in the bank of units as you will be carrying hot things across the kitchen. If you have children, that is a recipe for disaster.

Op,
I'm currently having my kitchen done and it's taken months of planning....
The kitchen designers came up with several designs, none of which worked for me....
So, I found a free tool and designed it myself, sending every design to the kitchen company owner and, eventually, we came up with a great design which is actually doable.
Google Easy Planner 3D and have a go yourself. It's a bit basic, but costs nothing other than your time.
Don't settle for anything unless you're completely happy with it.

BillyGoatGruff007 · 20/07/2016 15:40

Didn't see your post, Humpty, but Easy Planner 3D

Artandco · 20/07/2016 15:45

Hmm sorry but they both don't work for me.

Plan 1) the oven is in a wierd location and all food will have to go over heads to side

Plan 2) those seats are so close to the hob, and hob on edge of counter, I wouldn't want either with children

Artandco · 20/07/2016 15:47

Meant to say, do you really need those breakfast bar seats of the dining table is in the same room? Most people never actually use them. You would be better off having none and kitchen wrap around with storage cupboards

Artandco · 20/07/2016 15:48

I would have the oven where the bin system is

Budgiebonbon · 20/07/2016 16:03

I agree with other posters, the oven location away from the sink & hob will be tricky. It's one of those things I would resent every time I got something out of the oven.

What about oven where the bin system is and put the Bin system under the prep area, move the sink along slightly to make a slightly bigger prep area.

Put storage where the oven is.

Lovely kitchen OP, esp the Breakfast Bar.

OnePlanOnHouzz · 20/07/2016 16:16

The software the designer used is 2020fusion ... It's professional software - not the type you can download for free I'm afraid !

Mad busy at the moment... But had a look at this quickly - thinking that something using these shapes for your worksurface and cupboard areas - with tall oven ( left ) the FF (right ) either end of sink run - then hob in peninsular - with
general storage cabinets on the bottom wall might keep the cooking fridge and sink in a better space ...
Hope it helps !

Lol epic fail ! Forgot to attach the sketch !!!

blardyfeck · 20/07/2016 18:05

Ah I see, so there's 3 horizontal runs:
The run with the sink, with FF in top left hand corner and oven/combi in top right.
Then a gap and an island of sorts. It may need to be slightly reduced in length as on the left, there are sliding doors in the dining area. Would you put the hob on this island?
Then a gap and tall units along the back wall for storage and larders etc.

OP posts:
blardyfeck · 20/07/2016 18:09

although if the hob is on the island, could we still have seating there? We would only need it for 2

OP posts:
OnePlanOnHouzz · 20/07/2016 18:44

Yes hob on island centred to the window behind maybe ? Shorter island then with seating on end by patio doors could be a good spot ... No cabinets under the lowered ceiling area.

blardyfeck · 20/07/2016 19:06

ooooh OnePlanOnHouzz, that sounds really rather clever. I shall pass this idea on to my designer and get it drawn up and see if it works. It certainly ticks the boxes.
Thank you so much for your help. And thanks to everyone who has basically said that the oven needs moving. I think I knew it deep down but it sort of gets to a point where I can't see the wood for the trees. Not to mention the number of version changes that occur and it all starts to get embarrassing with the designers. They're all a bit exasperated.

But I shall not be coerced into buying a kitchen I'm unsure about, dammit.

Thank you so much

You are welcome !! Always happy to help a fellow mumsnetter !! Smile

MissMargie · 21/07/2016 01:16

I argued the case for my sink Not to be under the window with my last kitchen. I think designers feel the little woman likes a pretty view to admire while she washes up!!
Most stuff goes in the dw and if not I am looking at what I'm washing! So that makes things more flexible.

OnePlanOnHouzz · 21/07/2016 08:24

A good designer should listen to their client first and foremost ! Sorry that you had to argue your case MissMargie ... Often in a refit situation the plumbing is already in that location - so it simply means it is more cost effective to keep the sink there - I think there are more female kitchen designers about now - so if anyone doesn't feel like their designer isn't listening or open to fresh ideas - it's time to change designer !!!
