Hi, I've posted this on the local Norwich board but thought I'd post here too. I have seen there is loads of useful advice on here for people moving to Norwich and surrounding areas and I have read and re-read all the posts. We are hopefully going to be moving up from Suffolk and would really welcome some advice from anyone who lives there on the following...
I would love to be quite near the City, either a bus ride or 30/40 minute walk with a few local amenties (cafe, grocers or supermarket) nearby, but my husband wants to live somewhere he can walk to fields, woods etc with the dog. Would really like an older property rather than a new build and have a daughter starting school next year so looking for a nice school too.
So my question is, is it possible to find a part of Norwich that can off all these things?? I have been looking at Thorpe st andrew as a possible, but not sure about walks with the dog, parks etc?
We know the city centre well but not the outskirts, so I'd be really grateful for any advice.
Thank you in advance :)

hi all, thanks for all the help :)
Missy, interesting what you wrote about your non-Norwich friends ending up in Wymondham after giving Norwich a go. Why is that, do you think?
We did consider it, and have been for a look around but I think I am a city girl at heart (who always wants chickens, fields and the best of both worlds!)
Will bear in mind the dodgy areas - thanks. Have lived in my fair share of those!

Hi Stars, Yes, i have also noticed that, it seems very popular and the good houses are selling quickly... We did find the perfect (from the pictures) house in Thorpe but it had an offer before we could get up to see it...haven't found anything since and keep thinking about that house haha!
It sounds like we are both looking for similar, I haven't actually viewed any yet. Have you?
Will add Tuckswood to the list!
Good luck with finding your perfect house and location - Where are you moving from?

Starsandstripes, where did you end up in the finish?
We are still looking!

Thorpe St Andrew here; love it! Moved about two years ago. Schools are good (secondary is outstanding). 45 mins walk into the city centre which we do regularly and easy access to the bypass and coast. Grin

Hi, itsthekissing - glad to hear you love it - where did you move from? Thorpe St Andrew is currently my top choice - husband still keen on the more rural setting...hoping to make a decision in the next few months!!
Are the primary schools ok?

Following this thread with interest as we are currently in the process of buying in Thorpe St Andrews. Hopefully, not your perfect on paper house Singingstarfish. Wink
We spent a long time debating areas and settled on Thorpe as the housing stock/gardens seem slightly bigger. (Like you mentioned, we also have lived in too many terraced properties with bad insulation to consider city centre housing!)
We also have a school starter next year and there are several good schools nearby and it seems a family friendly area.
We are making quite a big move from having always lived in a large city so am really happy to hear all the positive Norwich comments!

Lalaear... It isn't a 1930s detached that needs renovating, is it? Smile
Good luck with your move.. I'd be interested to here how you get on. What primary school are you thinking of?
Definitely (still!) leaning towards Thorpe, just isn't much that comes up so just having to be patient.

We lived (a long time ago) in the old prison officers estate next to the prison - Honey Close & another one I can't remember.
I really liked living there, 25 minute walk into town through the cathedral close.
We also lived in Thorpe Hamlet, just off the top of Gas Hill.
I really enjoyed living in Norwich.

We live in what is technically lakenham, but the naicer part Grin in a 30s semi with decent garden. 20min walk to the city and a 'good' school in catchment. Not sure about walking the dog but there's a green space/park 5 mins away and whitlingham broad is definitely cycling distance. Eaton park isn't too far and is lovely. So the city centre isn't all tiny terraces and noisy neighbours ;)

How is Taverham? I know an ex-student who's just moved there.
