Know its been asked before - but - window in shower

This is the floorplan of the ensuite we are planning - there is going to be a window above the toilet (as currently drawn).

Dimensions are approximately 2.6m x 1m wide.

It is running alongside a bedroom, and we could if we wished make the end of it (where the toilet currently is) wider by about 20 cm. It would make sense if we did that to have the shower where the toilet currently is, and the toilet where the shower is. That means as you get out of the shower, you'd have 1.2m of kind of drying space instead of 1m. But, the window would be in the shower. If its all properly sealed, would that work do you think, or should we just stick with 1m width and leave the shower where it is?

It depends. Is that window overlooked by anything? Would you still be able to open the window?

I'd leave the shower where it is but just not use a tray. You could put up a glass partition beside the sink, which would give a more open feel, and have room to dry off etc. we've done it and it's lovely

I'd leave the shower where it is, but the extra width by the loo may be useful anyway, eg for a towel rail

Thank you. The window is only small (40cm wide by about 60 cm deep - think the size of a window in a separate toilet) and isn't overlooked (it's on the side of the house facing the side of the neighbour - they don't have a window opposite). Am undecided!!

It will get condensation and watersplash, which will find is way into the windowframe and the wall.

Its going to be a new extension PJ so is there no way of kind of sealing it if its built from scratch (as opposed to working with an existing window)?

We have a window in our shower. The window sill gives us somewhere for the shampoo so no naff shower caddy and you can open the window to help the extractor fan clear the room. Perfect !

We had a skylight in our teeny bathroom- makes all the difference and keeps it well aired. Is that a possibility for you at all?

I'd always prefer a window above the loo for airing the room. Also you can then leave it open while you shower but one right in the shower would need closed I think for draughts (except high summer).

I'd leave it as it is. That's plenty big enough for an ensuite and it won't give you any problems. Furthermore, no-one will have to step through the shower if they want to open the window to let toilet smells escape.
